Marco Rubio On Jimmy Fallon: A Closer Look At Those Boots

Marco Rubio took his turn on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to discuss some very important things regarding his candidacy, in particular, his stylish heeled boots.

Once Rubio said “hello” to the crowd and took his seat next to Fallon’s desk, it only took Jimmy Fallon a moment to swing his legs atop his desk to reveal he was wearing some very shiny heeled boots. They were an identical copy of the boots that Rubio was seen wearing in New Hampshire during his political tour there.

“Do you like my boots?” Fallon asked, as Rubio laughed.

“Those are nice,” Rubio replied, sticking up for the pair of shoes that have earned him plenty of ridicule from the media and his political compatriots. “Where’d you get those, man?”

It didn’t take Rubio long to get back into his usual polished manner in front of the cameras. “I need a backup pair,” he said. “I need one in Iowa and one in New Hampshire.”

Fallon goes on to discuss how he loves the boots, even if the other political candidates are making fun of them. He said that both he and Will Ferrell have really gotten into the zippered boot scene because of their stylish look.

Rubio said that he had a pair just like them in college, but the dye washed out of them at a foam party. He says he’s happy to have them back on his feet.

“I only wear them on weekends… nights mostly,” he said of the fashionable pair that Vanity Fair reported cost $165 at regular price at Macy’s.

After the backlash from the media, Rubio decided that it might be time to put these boots on the back burner for a while. When Jimmy asked why he wasn’t wearing them, Rubio responded as follows.

“They’re in an undisclosed location, but they’ll be used at the appropriate time.”

After a few more laughs about the boots, talk moved on to other things. Fallon asked Rubio to share the story of how he and his wife got engaged in New York City.

“We came here on Valentine’s Day in 1997. I wanted to propose to her on top of the Empire State Building, she likes that movie Sleepless in Seattle… So I got her up there, I proposed, and then I was afraid she would drop the ring over the side or something, so I grabbed the ring back and gave it back to her when we got to the bottom…I was just worried I would lose the ring, like it would fall over the side.”

Fallon spent some time laughing and joking with the good-natured Rubio after that one. See the entire bit below.

Later in the show, Rubio shared with viewers what he plans to do if the presidency doesn’t work out for him last night.

He began the story by talking about how his family immigrated to New York City, which defines the reason he wants to be the president of the United States. “I want it to remain it a place where people can do for their kids what my parents were able to do for me.”

Then, he said that he wouldn’t consider being Vice President if he fails to win the nomination. He says he has his eye on a higher position of power.

“I want to be like commissioner of the NFL, which is more power than president sometimes.”

Fallon laughed and seemed like he needed a little more convincing. “I’m serious, that’s a great job,” Rubio said. “You can suspend people.”

In the end, however, Rubio clarified to Fallon that his “first choice” will always be the White House.
