‘Halo 2’ Battle Rifle Returns With ‘Halo 5: Infinity’s Armory’ Update, And Pizza Skins?

Developer 343 Industries dropped new details on Wednesday for the next free Halo 5: Guardians update, Infinity’s Armory. The legendary Halo 2 Battle Rifle will make its return when the content update drops to the Xbox One exclusive next week.

As previously covered by Inquisitr, the Halo 5: Infinity’s Armory update adds two remix maps – Riptide for Arena and Urban for Warzone Assault – plus a bevy of new REQ armor, weapons, vehicles, and skins to be collected.

The headliner of the REQ content is perhaps the Halo 2 Battle Rifle REQ. This weapon was devastating in the over 10-year-old game’s multiplayer and turned into a long-time favorite that other Halo weapons have been measured against.

The Halo 2 Battle Rifle REQ will be a Mythic loadout weapon that can be used in Warzone or Warzone Assault. While luck will have to be on your side to get it the Battle Rifle in Warzone, 343 Industries will make it available in Forge for map creators to design their own multiplayer levels and gametypes around. It’s also a perfect addition to any Halo 2 map recreations.

Interestingly, the new Riptide map is built on the campaign story from Halo 5: Guardians. The Fathom Arena map remix is moving up from the depths of an alien ocean for another otherworldly feel.

“The Created have wasted no time in extending their influence across inhabited worlds, burrowing into Forerunner machinery and UNSC information systems to turn terraforming equipment and world engines to their own grand designs. Unbound by the limited foresight of mortals, the agents of Cortana can reshape worlds into verdant gardens teeming with life after only a few decades of manipulation, but at much short-term cost. Scarred by wars both ancient and new, the Created have judged this planet to be in need of significant remediation and remodeling; shifting continents and oceans after the AI constructs carefully balanced the drawbacks and benefits of both limited extinction events and damage to the existing colonial infrastructure.”

Additionally, 343 Industries is using the Halo 5: Infinity’s Armor update to show off their goofy side with weapon skins and the accompanying trailer. Mister Chief-themed weapon skins for the Assault Rifle and Mangum Pistol are added along with a pizza and fries skin for the same.

If you are wondering about the sudden addition of BoomCo emblems and weapon skins, this is a bit of a marketing tie-in for Halo 5. BoomCo manufactures Halo-themed Nerf gun-like weapons modeled after UNSC and Covenant guns.

Meanwhile, the new Assassination moves are just as painfully hilarious to watch as usual. Wind Up spins an opposing player around to snap his neck, and Stop Stabbing Yourself manages to use an enemy’s on knife against him before tossing him like a rag doll.

The Achilles Armor Set is also of interest. This Halo spin on the ancient Greek myth has some conditions for obtaining instead of being a random REQ drop that depends on the luck of the draw. The body armor requires players to be in a Spartan Company that has achieved Level 3 in all Kill Commendations and the helmet requires the Spartan Company to have reached Level 5.

Spartan Companies are the equivalent of clans in Halo 5 and information on them can be found on Halo Waypoint. You can find one to join there or search the Halo Reddit community for one as well.
