BET Delivers Zinger Response To ‘Clueless’ Actress Stacey Dash Over Her Plea To Get Rid Of Black History Month And BET

Stacey Dash received a ton of backlash from netizens on social media following her controversial call for the elimination of BET and Black History on Wednesday night, but the best response of them all was from the network itself.

BET’s zinger came hours after the Clueless actress sat down for an interview with Steve Doocey on Fox & Friends, where she shared her thoughts about the controversy surrounding the lack of diversity in this year’s Oscar nominations.

According to Hollywood Life, Stacey described the Oscar boycott as “ludicrous,” adding that African-American institutions and award giving bodies catering exclusively to people of color such as BET should be abolished.

“Either we want to have segregation or integration. And if we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards where you’re only awarded if you’re Black. If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard.”

“So you say there shouldn’t be a BET channel?” Doocey asked Dash.

“No,” Stacey said. “I don’t think so, no. Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month. You know? We’re Americans. Period. That’s it.”

“Are you saying there shouldn’t be a Black History Month because there isn’t a white history month?” Steve pressed.

“Exactly, exactly,” Stacey intoned.

Doocey then brought up Al Sharpton’s own take on the Oscars controversy: “Hollywood is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher up you get the whiter it gets.”

“That’s not necessarily true,” Dash said. “And if it is, that needs to change.”

Stacey Dash then proceeded by blaming Obama, noting how the US President has always received strong backing from Hollywood’s liberal elite.

“What I find astounding is that we’ve had a president who is black in office for the past eight years who gets most of his funding from the liberal elite in Hollywood. Yet, there are not very many roles for people of color. How can that be, and why is it just now being addressed?”

When Doocy revealed to her that the Academy are composed mostly of white males, Dash appeared surprised, and after downplaying the interviewer’s question, put the blame on Obama again.

“Really? I hope they’re looking for the best movies and the best actors. The good news is that there’s attention brought to it now.”

“But like I said, for the past eight years we’ve had a president who’s black, who gets his funding mainly from Hollywood, the elite liberals,” Dash said. “So it’s odd to me that this has now become such an issue.”

BET’s response to Stacey Dash came via Twitter: an image of Stacey guesting on an old episode of The Game –– a television show that aired on Black Entertainment Television back in the early 2000’s. The caption was a mic-drop of the highest order: “can we get our check back… or nah?”

Now we’ve got to admit: that’s some MAJOR burn right there. And BET wasn’t even done yet. After calling out Dash for her hypocrisy, the network shared a link to a gallery chronicling many of the Fox News contributor’s controversial statements. The gallery was entitled “Every Time Stacey Dash Proved She Was Clueless.”

Stacey Dash hasn’t responded to any of BET’s tweets, but she did share a video showing an interview of Morgan Freeman agreeing with her stance on why Black History Month should be eliminated.

“Listen to Freeman’s brilliant response! He is right I agree with him 200%

I also think there should not be a BET.

We are Americans. Period.

I don’t need a special month or special channel. What’s sad is that these insidious things only keep us segregated and invoke false narratives.

Listen to Morgan explain his position so well.”

And lest we forget, today is also Stacey Dash’s birthday.
