The year 2016 offers many different health trends, whether it’s food, mental health, or dieting. For those who are looking for healthier trends there are many trends that will make 2016 the best year ever. A few simple changes go a long way towards helping those who want to get healthier this year get healthier without a lot of effort.
Food is an interesting health trend in 2016. According to The State Press, food trends this year include lentils, vinegar, and insects. Several of the experts from ASU’s School of Nutrition and Health had varying opinions on what this year’s food trends would be. In particular, Doctoral student and Teaching Assistant Claudia Thompson-Felty said that there wouldn’t be one special food this year. Instead, she suggested that there would be multiple foods that would be powerhouses, that included sweet potatoes, grass-fed beef, broccoli, berries, and leafy greens.
“There has been a focus recently on the return of a more traditional diet. A traditional diet incorporates whole foods, cooked simply and incorporates all food groups. “Eating a minimally processed diet will lead to a more nutrient dense diet, and less of a need to focus on calorie control.”

Carol Johnston, the Associate Director of the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion said that those looking to get healthy were looking for for natural solutions, and she suggested vinegar.
“I have researched the health benefits of vinegar and believe it has the potential to help many people – particularly those at risk for diabetes or with pre-diabetes,” she wrote. “The research regarding the health benefits of vinegar is accumulating. There is much interest surrounding the use of vinegar for blood glucose control (the science is well established) as well as for reducing belly fat (emerging research).”
As previously reported in Inquisitr, there will be many healthcare trends that will impact both patients and healthcare professionals in 2016. Because healthcare and prescriptions have become so expensive, there will be many measures taken to cut the cost of healthcare while delivering more efficient care. These included telemedicine and opportunities for consumers to shop around for policies and solutions that are far less expensive than what is available now.
Although food provides an enjoyable way to improve health, the downside of health trends this year is based on a report released related to mental health that said, although mental health issues will increase, six in 10 American adults will not receive the care they need. According to Good Therapy, 18.5 percent of adults were experiencing some form of mental health issues, even though six in 10 would not receive any type of treatment. There will be an increase youth depression, and there is a barrier to mental health care because of the cost.

Style Blueprint offered their top health trends based on advice from the experts. One of the most important trends is interval training. In 2013, the fitness world got on the bandwagon for the seven-minute workouts. These high intensity short workouts promised to help users get fit fast while burning a lot of fat and working out in the least amount of time. More health experts are championing the interval workout over endurance training because it does work. It is now considered one of the most effective ways to increase metabolism, lose weight, and build muscles. Experts do, however, recommend that users avoid doing this type of training every day.
Other trends to understand include sugar consumption and bone broth. Sugar has been proven in multiple health studies to be far worse than saturated fat. Since the average American consumes about 19 teaspoons a day, 12 more than is recommended, cutting consumption of sugar is one of the latest health trends to be recommended, especially for those who want to lose weight and feel healthier. Bone broth was touted as a super food before because of the nutrients in the bone. However, experts have concluded that the nutrients may not be absorbed into the body the way they are needed.
