Assassin’s Creed Movie To Star Michael Fassbender

Assassin’s Creed is heading to the silver screen and Michael Fassbender will be the star.

Variety reports that Fassbender will also be producing the movie through his company DMC Film with partner Conor McCaughan.

Ubisoft Motion Pictures president Jean-Julien Baronnet said:

“Michael Fassbender was our first choice… Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”

MTV reports that it isn’t clear who Fassbender will play in the Assassin’s Creed movie. The game focuses on the story of Desmond Miles, a young man who is captured by group of Knight’s Templar assassins, but subsequent storylines have focused on other characters like Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Fassbender will be the star of the new movie but other than that little is known about the Assassin’s Creed movie.

The Huffington Post reports that there have been two Assassin’s Creed games so far. A third game to the popular franchise is set for release later this year. There have also been a few spin-off games.

According to VG247, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has sold more than 31 million games since 2007.

Here’s a trailer for the latest game.

There is no release date set for the new film and Fassbender seems pretty busy at the moment. He’s currently filming Twelve Years A Slave and has another X-Men movie in the works. It may be a summer or two until the film adaptation of this popular game hits theaters.
