Selena Gomez, Charlie Puth Rumors: Is Romance On The Horizon For Singers?
Selena Gomez and Charlie Puth are collaborating on a new song, but could they also be collaborating on a relationship? That’s a question floating around the two singers after their recent work on “We Don’t Talk Anymore.”
According to USA Today, the new song by written by Charlie Puth entitled “We Don’t Talk Anymore” is in response to what happens after a breakup. The song title came out of the age-old question, of whether his friend and an ex still talked Charlie Puth explained.
“I was talking to my friend who had just broken up with this girl, and I was like, ‘So, are you going to talk to her anymore?’ And he was like, ‘Nah, we don’t talk anymore.’ I was trying to cheer him up, so I did a dumb little face, and I was like, [singing] ‘We don’t talk anymore.’ I was just trying to cheer him up, but it became a cool melody, and I realized that this guitar beat fit perfectly over it.”
The song, “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” will be the second single on Charlie Puth’s debut studio album entitled Nine Track Mind and will be released on January 29, 2016.
As for how Selena Gomez got involved with the single, it was simply a matter of asking. While on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, Charlie Puth was asked about how he and Selena Gomez came to collaborate and his answer was fairly straight forward.
“I called Selena out at some ungodly hour and was like, ‘Hey, any chance you would want to cut this?’ And she came over and recorded it in like 15 minutes.”
Selena Gomez’s own experience with breakups allowed her to really connect with the message of the song. In an interview with Seventeen, Charlie Puth was able to explain why Selena Gomez was such a good fit for the song “We Don’t Talk Anymore.”
“I met up with Selena, and she went through a very public relationship, on and off, and she could just relate to the song and the lyrical sentiment. I was playing the song for her, and she just started singing the second verse. I got chills. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that sounds so real. You need to sing on it.’ And she said yes.”
The friendship between Selena Gomez and Charlie Puth can be traced back to as early as September of 2015. Hollywood Life reported that Selena Gomez posted pictures of her time with Charlie Puth on Twitter, but was quick to shut down any rumors of romance.

Selena Gomez and Charlie Puth again showed off their friendly side at a Golden Globes after-party where rumors of a relationship resurfaced. This time, Charlie Puth took to social media – Instagram this time – to demonstrate how fun their friendship is. In the black and white video, Charlie Puth can be seen in his tuxedo and Selena Gomez in her off the shoulder, blush-colored J. Mendel goddess gown. The two are singing to their upcoming song “We Don’t Talk Anymore.”
Selena Gomez, known for her singing career as much as her personal life, was rumored to be getting back together with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber. He, however, appears to have moved on with Hailey Baldwin, daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin, leaving Selena Gomez to find love in a different place.
As for now, it does seem like Selena Gomez and Charlie Puth are just friends, but their apparent chemistry in collaborating on music is enough to fuel speculation.
