Skinny, Bug-Eating Angelina Jolie Walks The ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ Red Carpet: Why Her Kids Didn’t Join Her

Angelina Jolie showed off her skinny figure on the red carpet of the Kung Fu Panda 3 premiere in Hollywood, and her thin figure has the tabloids buzzing. But, is her body really the result of eating bugs? And, why didn’t Angelina Jolie’s offspring costars – 12-year-old Pax, 11-year-old Zahara, nine-year-old Shiloh, and 7-year-old Knox – join her on the red carpet?

After photos emerged showing 40-year-old Angelina Jolie walking the Kung Fu Panda 3 premiere red carpet alone in a little black dress, the Mirror labeled the actress “extremely skinny,” “painfully thin,” and “bony;” OK! Magazine described her as “scary skinny” and in need of a “burger, with extra cheese;” and X17 wrote that she looked “almost skeletal.”

Angelina Jolie is often the subject of diet rumors, and the latest claim about how the actress is staying so thin sounds pretty crazy. Last month, New Idea! alleged that Angelina weighs less than 90 pounds because she’s started replacing the meat in her diet with various bugs. Eating insects is a common practice in Cambodia, which is where Angelina Jolie is filming her upcoming Netflix movie, First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers. Angelina has allegedly developed a taste for the creepy crawly treats, and she’s been devouring delicacies like roasted crickets, fried tarantulas, and beetles.

“Brad’s noticed that she’s looking particularly skinny and gaunt lately, and he’s not happy,” a source revealed. “He told her that eating bugs is madness, but Ange insisted that if it was good enough for the Cambodian locals, it was good enough for her.”

Angelina Jolie might not be trying to intentionally lose weight by eating insects, but there’s a good chance that the crunchy critters been a big part of her diet lately. Angelina has actually admitted that she enjoys chowing down on various insects, and she does it so often that her children have even developed a taste for the unusual treats.

In their book, What the Great Ate: A Curious History of Food and Fame, authors Mark and Matthew Jacob share Angelina Jolie’s stomach-churning description of eating cockroaches. The pests are one of the many insect delicacies that she got turned on to while visiting Cambodia.

“There’s this very pointy bit on their stomach you just can’t eat. You have to kind of pop that off,” Jolie said.

Angelina Jolie describes cockroaches as the perfect diet food: they’re meaty and high in protein. According to the Huffington Post, Jolie has said that she also enjoys eating crickets, and her kids share her fondness for the creepy crawly snack food after being introduced to it during a 2011 visit to Cambodia.

“I’ve always loved to eat crickets. It’s their favorite thing,” Angelina revealed. “They ate them like Doritos and they wouldn’t stop. But they’re good. They are like a potato chip.”

Speaking of Angelina Jolie’s cricket-eating kids, it sounds like they haven’t been bitten by the acting bug just yet. According to Extra, four of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s six children – Shiloh, Pax, Zahara, and Knox – voice animated characters in Kung Fu Panda 3. Angelina describes her kids as being a bit “shy,” and it sounds like acting might not be enough of a challenge for them.

“Now that they’ve had a taste, they think Mommy’s job is ridiculously easy.”

Shiloh, Pax, Zahara, and Knox weren’t able to join Angelia Jolie on the red carpet at the movie premiere because they had just gotten off a plane from Cambodia. Angelina barely had time to get red carpet ready, so obviously there was no way her glam squad was going to get almost half a dozen kids prepped for a photo op.

“I just pulled myself together, just cleaned the dirt off my feet,” Angelina revealed. “The kids are at home getting ready, and ZZ (Zahara) and I were in hair and makeup together.”

According to the Daily Mail, Pax, Shiloh, Zahara, Knox, and Vivienne showed up in time for the movie’s premiere. Vivienne was the only member of the Jolie-Pitt family in attendance who didn’t voice a character in Kung Fu Panda 3. Maddox and Brad Pitt skipped the event.

You can hear Angelina Jolie, and her offspring, voicing their animated animal characters when Kung Fu Panda 3 hits theaters on January 29.
