A man from Fruitland Park, Florida, has been arrested after reportedly becoming angry at his wife and using her as a mop to clean up a mess on the floor after attempting to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
The bizarre charge of abuse occurred while Keith Davidson attempted to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, according to Metro. Davidson became irate when he realized there was no jam for the sandwich, upon which he “turned into a monster,” according to his wife. Hoping to prevent the tirade from escalating, Davidson’s wife attempted to put the peanut butter away and move on. However, she knocked over a glass of milk, spilling it to the floor. That is when Davidson’s anger turned dangerous and bizarre, according to WESH TV.
“When I went to go grab the peanut butter, I hit the cup of milk. The cup of milk fell on the floor,”
Davidson’s temper got the best of him as he grabbed his wife, ripped off her shirt, and threw her to the ground, using her head as a mop to clean up the mess. A call to 911 captured the victim’s side of the abuse as she screamed at her husband after having enough, refusing to be harmed any more by Davidson.
She could be heard responding to her Davidson after he asked her why she was yelling.
“Because you ripped my shirt off and threw me on the floor. That’s why I’m yelling,. To use me as a dish mop, it’s not the first, not the second, not the third time. But I can’t take no more,”
The dispatcher was able to ask Davidson why he used his wife’s head as a mop, to which he responded it was food related.
“She threw my peanut butter and jelly on the floor,”
Carol Wick, the CEO of Harbor House in Central Florida, stated that many times, incidents of domestic violence are centered around food. Although, the food is not necessarily the cause of the argument or abuse, but rather an excuse to instigate the violence.
“Often times we find it’s around food. They use that as an excuse to then lash out at their partner.”
Sometimes, a simply peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a glass of spilled milk can become the catalyst for the release of pent up anger, potentially leading to violence. In a relationship, that violence can lead to spousal abuse of the worst kind, both emotional and physical. In this case, rather than vent anger and frustration in a healthy manner through discussion and support of each other, the anger steamed over, resulting in an act of abuse that should never have occurred.
Although Davidson’s wife revealed that the abuse was not new to the relationship, she did claim that she has finally had enough, that she cannot stand to be a victim any longer, leading to the call to 911 and the arrival of the police.
She claims that she cannot live with Davidson anymore and chance a repeat of being used as a mop or any other demeaning method of abuse. Instead, she is finally going to move on and live her own life, regardless of how hard it is.
“You can love someone with all your heart, but if they’re not going to be a good person for you, in your life, then it’s time to just say goodbye. And it’s the hardest thing for me,”
WFLA reported that Davidson posted bond and was released from jail. In the past, he has been arrested for battery and drugs.
