Caitlyn Jenner Finally Responds To Ricky Gervais Golden Globes Joke

Caitlyn Jenner has some fighting words for comedian Ricky Gervais. The star of I Am Cait, has responded to Gervais’ joke about her in his opening monologue during the Golden Globes on Sunday, Us Weekly reports.

“I’m going to be nice tonight. I’ve changed — not as much as Bruce Jenner,” Ricky Gervais said to the audience during the live Golden Globes telecast. “Obviously. Now Caitlyn Jenner, of course … What a year she’s had! She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery in breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes. She didn’t do a lot for women drivers. But you can’t have everything, can ya? Not at the same time.”

If you’re unsure, that was a reference to the accident that Jenner got into in February 2015. According to Gawker, footage of the three car crash has been obtained from a bus security camera. The footage shows Jenner’s car crashing into the two other cars, sending a white Lexus sedan into oncoming traffic where it’s hit. The driver of the Lexus, 69-year-old Kim Howe, died on impact.

The crash is no laughing matter, but Caitlyn responded to Gervais’ joke at Television Critics Association’s winter press tour on Thursday, January 14, in Pasadena, California.

“I think what I’m gonna do is call the Golden Globes, and see if they need a new host for next year, and we’ll solve that problem,” the transgender reality TV star said reporters when she was asked about the Gervais’s comments.

Caitlyn Jenner is being sued by Howe’s family and the driver of the Prius, but no criminal charges have been filed against yet as a result of the crash. According to The New York Daily News there’s an ongoing criminal investigation that’s set to conclude in July. Jenner could eventually be charged with misdemeanor reckless driving charges, the paper reports.

In a September 2015 interview with Matt Lauer of The Today Show, Jenner revealed that she doesn’t remember much from the accident. “I remember it very little,” she said. “I remember it happening and that’s about it.”

She did call the event an absolute “tragedy.”

“A tragedy like this, you’ll never get over it. You just learn to live with it the best you possibly can,” she said. She also insisted that she wasn’t speeding that day.

“I was under the speed limit; I was going 46 in a 50,” she said. “My air bag didn’t even go off.”

As E! Online reports, Caitlyn Jenner did discuss with Lauer what would hypothetically happen if she was sentenced to jail time. Jenner disclosed that, at the time, her legal team was was working to ensure that she would not have to be confined to a men’s prison.

“That is the worst case scenario. I will say the men’s county jail, it is an enormous problem that they would put trans women in a men’s county jail.”

During the interview, she also reflected on her journey of transitioning from being Bruce Jenner to Caitlyn Jenner.

“I think about my life and where I’m at in my life right now and what a tremendous experience this. Hardly nobody gets to live two genders in their lives. Everybody wonders, ‘Oh, what’s it like to be coming from the other side? You know, their thinking, the way they act, everything?’ And here I have the opportunity to do that. And to be honest with you, everything’s so new and fun. From that standpoint, it’s been great,” she said. Jenner added that she she now gets to “enjoy life” as Caitlyn.

The transition did seem to wreak havoc on her relationships with her family. Khloe Kardashian has recently come out and said that Caitlyn lied to the family about her transition. Khloe was on the Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show where she revealed that Caitlyn’s lies about her transgender identity drove a wedge within the Kardashian Jenner family, People Magazine reports.

“All these tabloids are coming out… we’re like, ‘we could ask the source. You’re our dad, we’ll ask you,’ ” Kardashian recalled

But Khloe says that Caitlyn told them that the tabloids were lying. The only found out about her transition when they went to a meeting with E! executives.

“We felt so like, ‘What the f—? We’ve been asking you and why do business people know?’ ” she told Stern. “I never want someone to feel like they have one-up on our family. We are a family. We’ve never turned our backs on each other yet with all the clusterf—s of s— that’s happened in our lives, why would we now?”

I Am Cait returns to TV in March.
