‘Destiny’: Xur’s Exotic Goods For Jan. 15, Exotic Helmet Engram On Sale

The parade of Destiny Year One Exotics upgraded to Year Two and being sold by Xûr continues for the weekend of Friday, January 15. The Agent of the Nine refreshed his stock and is now offering a helmet Engram for sale in a nice change of pace from several consecutive weeks of Exotic weapons.

Destiny players looking for Xûr should turn right and head toward the hangar after spawning at the Tower. Once you’ve gone through the long hallway and entered the hangar, turn right and you will see the seller of Exotics. Here’s where you can find him on the Tower map, just to be sure.

Note that Bungie moved Xûr to this location from the Reef following a door glitch that blocked Destiny players from reaching the vendor.

Xûr and his items will only be available in Destiny through the morning of Sunday, January 17. As soon as the clock strikes 5 a.m. ET/1 a.m. PT, he will be gone.

For those wondering what to get, here are a few helpful hints.

Ruin Wings

The ability to gain extra Heavy Weapon ammo drops is always welcome and the Year Two version of Ruin Wings continues the tradition with the “Seeds of Ruin” perk for Titans. This week’s edition also offers the choice between faster reloading for Sidearms and Rocket Launchers, as well as a choice between increased grenade throw distance and bonus grenade energy on melee hits.

The split stat of 42 Intellect and 40 Discipline calls for a reroll when combined with the “Sidearm Loader” perk. The reload perk for Sniper Rifle or even Shotgun will likely be of better use.

Celestial Nighthawk

The Celestial Nighthawk is a Gunslinger Hunter-specific Exotic helmet that gives the Golden Gun a single shot with six times the normal damage. The “Big Game” perk is fun to use in PVE and helpful against tougher enemies that barely flinch from a normal, single Golden Gun shot. However, it is not useful at all in PVP, where more three to four shots are preferable over one big one.

The perk choices that come by default with Xur’s offering are great, however. Destiny Hunters should aim for “Inverse Shadow” as a third column perk with either “Infusion” or “Better Already” in the final column. Reroll this with as high an Intellect stat as can be obtained to shoot for faster Super regeneration.

The Impossible Machines

These Warlock Gauntlets are specific to the Stormcaller subclass and currently remain a must-have. The innate perk is called “Lightning Rod” and gives the subclass the “Landfall” ability perk without taking up a spot on the skill tree.

The other available perks include “Impact Induction” for bonus grenade energy on melee hits, plus the choice of faster reload speed on Auto Rifles or Fusion Rifles.

The 41 Discipline/43 Strength split stat-roll is decent, but likely needs to be rerolled to get more Intellect for that all important Super. Destiny players can shoot for the weapon reload preference in the process.
