‘Teen Wolf’ Actor Charlie Carver Comes Out — See What Other Cast Members Have To Say

Teen Wolf returned from its mid-season hiatus this week, and with the latest plot developments also comes the revelation that former Teen Wolf star Charlie Carver is gay.

Charlie Carver, who played Ethan on Teen Wolf from 2013 to 2014, took to his Instagram account to reveal the news to his fan and his reasoning for doing so was to be an inspiration to other people. This inspiration was evident as Charlie Carver posted a graphic that over time became important to him.

The importance of this message soon became evident when — as Us Weekly Magazine reported — Charlie Carver began the process of coming out over five Instagram posts. Charlie Carver shared his emotions and experiences, especially when discussing how he felt as a child. His keen awareness that he was different from other boys led to a mix of emotions.

“Over time, this abstract ‘knowing’ grew and articulated itself through a painful gestation marked by feelings of despair and alienation, ending in a climax of saying three words out loud: ‘I am gay.’ I said them to myself at first, to see how they felt. They rang true, and I hated myself for them. I was twelve.”

While Charlie Carver was able to come out to his family in a loving, safe manner, his rising celebrity status posed a challenge for him.

“When it came to this differentiation of public/private, I was of the opinion that my sexuality could stay off the table … I did not want to be defined by my sexuality. Sure, I am a proud gay man, but I don’t identify as a Gay man, or a GAY man, or just gay.”

Eventually, the former Teen Wolf star, was able to realize that while being openly gay is a choice that each person needs to make for themselves, the fact that other openly gay actors allowed him to accept himself, his coming out might also serve as inspiration for others.

“I know that because of all of the brave men and women who’ve come out, self-identified, or couldn’t have possibly ever been ‘In.’ So to them, I am also forever grateful.”

Immediately after Charlie Carver posted to Instagram, support came flooding in. His former Teen Wolf cast mates were especially supportive. Colton Hayes, who played Jackson Whittemore on Teen Wolf from 2012 to 2013 took to Twitter to offer his thoughts.

Current Teen Wolf star, Holland Roden, who plays Lydia Martin, also went on her Twitter account to issue similar sentiments.

Charlie Carver also received words of encouragement from his former on-screen mother, Felicity Huffman, when the duo acted on Desperate Housewives together. Posting an open letter to Charlie Carver on her Facebook account, Felicity wrote that she was proud of him.

“I love you. I admire you. I applaud you. You make me happy to be human. You make me proud to be an actor. Love, your TV Mom, Lynette. And your real life friend, Flicka.”

While Charlie Carver’s acting credits continue to grow, he is still best known to his fans from his time on Teen Wolf. The popular Teen Wolf just aired its second episode after returning from a four-month hiatus to continue its fifth season. The show about werewolves has upped the ante this season with the introduction of a super beast.

The ultimate werewolf was envisioned by Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he explained how he wanted The Beast to look.

“We knew that we wanted to make it huge, very fast, and that we wanted the skin to be darker… He’s got oily black skin kind of like Venom, and then there are the teeth that we wanted to make razor sharp and huge.”

While Teen Wolf deals with the morality of being both a werewolf and a human, for new character The Beast, there are no grey areas. Instead, Teen Wolf producer Jeff Davis only sees an imperfect creature perfectly fine with that fact.

“The Beast is purely evil. This is a creature that knows only one thing and does it well, and that’s killing.”

Backstory for The Beast will be revealed in upcoming episodes, and until then, fans of Teen Wolf will have to contend themselves with speculation over just how The Beast can be fought.
