?Ellen DeGeneres, ??Portia de Rossi??? Welcome Their New ‘Kid’: A Puppy

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi can now finally say that they have a kid, according to USA Today. The Ellen DeGeneres Show host revealed she and her wife Portia welcomed a “Kid” to their family. It turns out what they really have is an adorable, 9-week-old puppy named Kid.

“Portia and I got a puppy and his name is Kid, so now we have a kid. I named him Kid because… there’s been rumors forever, when are you and Portia going to have a kid? And so now I can say…we have a Kid. He’s absolutely adorable. He’s 9 weeks old and cute as can be, but I’ll tell you what’s not cute is to wake up at 11, and 1, and 3 and 5.”

DeGeneres went on to say that getting a puppy has given her a deeper appreciation for what it’s like being a mother. “I’m trying to hold a puppy while I’m trying to make coffee, and I can’t do anything,” she added. “He doesn’t let me do anything.”

Ellen DeGeneres, just last year, was saying that she thinks she’d be a good mother, but that wasn’t enough of a reason to have children. Portia de Rossi and DeGeneres have been married since 2008, and as it turns out, Ellen has always let it be known that she never had any intention of raising kids, though it may be safe to assume that many fans of the talk show would love to see Ellen and Portia have a baby.

Speaking with NBC’s Today anchor Matt Lauer, Ellen said that the idea of having a baby, as much as she loved kids, seemed like a big commitment that she wasn’t sure she could fully handle. She did manage to keep a sense of humor, as she always does, while the topic was being discussed between herself and Lauer.

“Like, what if I don’t like the kid?,” she said jokingly, adding that doubts of whether or not the baby would be as talented or cute as she wanted. With all of the adorable children she has had on the talk show throughout the years, Ellen jokes that she would simply be comparing her child to all of them and feeling that her kid would come nowhere close to the other kids.

“I’m getting too old,” 57-year-old Ellen DeGeneres said. “Listen, they’re cute, those little kids, but no.”

Having a sense of humor about it all is totally her style and not surprising one bit. In 2014, Ellen quizzed her wife Portia and the topic of children came up. De Rossi made a reference to a magazine claiming that the two were finally going to start a family at the time, and Portia said, “It would be so fun for everybody if we were (having a baby).”

“No, we’re not going to have a baby?” DeGeneres asked jokingly. “OK, good for me to know now.”

Portia de Rossi felt that their decision to not have a child may have upset some people around them, including her mother, Margaret Rogers. Rumors of ?Ellen DeGeneres and ??Portia de Rossi having children have been ongoing for several years, a fact she addressed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2014. Portia says she and Ellen don’t mind spending time with 5-year-old Eva and 3-year-old Perry — Portia’s nieces, jokingly adding that once they’ve played with them, they’re done and they leave. But despite that, her nieces do think of her as a “cool aunt,” so maybe parenting their own children really isn’t a big deal for them.
