Grey’s Anatomy: Meredith Brutally Attacked In Mid-Season Premiere

Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC next month and we will get to find out exactly what happened to Meredith during the TGIT promo released earlier this month for the mid-season premiere. Until then, some of the Grey’s Anatomy cast members have given an insight into what’s going on at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, and why Meredith was lying face down on the floor, covered in blood in the upcoming episode directed by Denzel Washington.

“Meredith gets attacked by someone you would least expect and it is just as terrifying, shocking and harrowing as it appears,” Kelly McCreary (Dr. Maggie Pierce — Meredith’s half-sister) told Entertainment Weekly at ABC’s Winter Press Tour day on Saturday, January 9. There were moments where we were like, ‘What?! Oh, God!’ It’s a lot,” Caterina Scorsone (Dr. Amelia Shepherd — Meredith’s sister-in-law) added.

“She’s attacked really brutally, really viciously and in a completely surprising, weird way,” Sarah Drew (Dr. April Kepner) continued. “It’s up there with the worst of it. It’s really high because also, she is totally powerless in the midst of it. I think that probably is the most terrifying piece of it for her.”

Meredith’s attack will take an obvious toll on her co-workers, and everyone at the hospital. James Pickens Jr. (Dr. Richard Webber) talked to E! News about how his character, and the rest of Meredith’s friends, will respond to the gruesome event, and Scorsone opened up about how the attack will affect Amelia.

“It makes us realize how much of a family Seattle Grace really is and how in times of trauma and times of turmoil, how you come together for the common good. In this case, it’s saving her life basically.”

Amelia, who Meredith kicked out of her house at the end of the last season, takes the news of the attack harder than anyone else, according to Scorsone, who says Amelia feels responsible for what happened to her sister-in-law. Meredith and Amelia have been on the outs since Derek’s death, and Amelia feels like she had something to do with Meredith’s brutal attack.

“Amelia takes that really hard,” Scorsone said. “Amelia always holds herself extremely responsible for the misfortune of others. In this case especially, she feels somehow responsible, even though she’s really not. She often takes it all very personally when someone she’s close to is hurt. When we come back, Amelia is at a very, very low point.”

Fans of Grey’s Anatomy have come up with many theories as to what happened to Meredith (gunshot, explosion, etc.), and they are not happy that Meredith is hurt, considering all she has been through over the past few seasons. However, the entire episode is reportedly centered around Meredith, so they should get the answers to their questions fairly quickly. On the other hand, fans may have to wait a bit longer to find out what happened with April and Jackson, along with Owen and Amelia, whose relationship was on the rocks the last we saw.
