Ed McMahon, Legendary TV Host and Personality, has Died at 86


Edward Leo Peter McMahon, Jr., (Ed McMahon) the legendary TV personality born March 6, 1923, has died at age 86, according to his publicist.

Ed McMahon was most famous for his 30 year stint as Jonny Carson’s announcer from 1962 to 1992 and also as host of the popular 1990’s talent show, Star Search. He was also well known as the presenter of the America Family Publishers sweepstakes (Publishers Clearing House) where he would show up at people’s homes and present sweepstakes winners with their prizes.

Ed McMahon died peacefully in his sleep at the UCLA Medical Center. His publicist and friend, Howard Bragman, has confirmed Ed McMahon died just past midnight in the early morning of Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. d McMahon was 86.
