Lady Gaga is revealing big new details about her upcoming fourth solo studio album.
Gaga spilled the beans about her upcoming release to Entertainment Weekly on January 10, where she revealed that fans can expect to see her put out the much-anticipated new album sometime in 2016.
“You know, I am putting out an album this year,” Lady Gaga told the site backstage at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards, where she took home an award for Best Actress in a Limited TV Series for her recent work on Fox’s American Horror Story: Hotel.
Though Gaga played coy on exactly when we can actually expect the album to hit shelves (she teased reporters at the prestigious awards show “I won’t tell you when!” when revealing new album details), she did confess that the Lady Gaga we know and love may transform once again for the upcoming release.
“That’s a difficult thing to say as I don’t know that you yet know what I will look like for my next album, as I’m still creating all of those things,” Lady Gaga revealed to Entertainment Weekly backstage at the Golden Globes, adding that “It’s something that is a gradual change always with me.”
Lady Gaga also told reporters at the show that it was her award winning work playing The Countess on Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Hotel that inspired her to once again embrace playing a character.
“What was nice about playing The Countess is it reminded me that in my own life and in my music, I’m always — at times — playing a character, and I become them fully,” Lady Gaga said. “Living inside of her was liberating, I’ll tell you, because she doesn’t give a s*** about anything.”
The as-yet-untitled new album will serve as a follow-up to Lady Gaga’s 2014 collaboration album with Tony Bennett, Cheek to Cheek, released in September, 2014. Gaga’s last solo album, Artpop, debuted atop the U.S. Billboard Top 200 in 2013 after selling 258,000 copies in its first week, according to Billboard.
While Lady Gaga is keeping tight-lipped right now when it comes to revealing any further details about her new album, it appears that her record label, Interscope Records, are pretty pleased with Gaga’s progress.
Gaga took to Instagram on December 21 to reveal that her label heads had gifted her with a pretty unique present, likely in anticipation of her upcoming album release.
“Today on my doorstep was delivered a White Angel from heaven,” Gaga captioned a photo of a white horse which was allegedly left for her on her doorstep. “It felt like the old days of the record business, she’s such a spiritual girl!,” Lady Gaga continued, adding, ” A heartfelt thank you to John Janick and Steve Berman, the whole Interscope family. I will ride, and care for, and love her forever. I was so surprised!”
Lady Gaga also opened up about her sweet record company gift during an interview with E!’s Live From The Red Carpet host Ryan Seacrest on the Golden Globes red carpet, where she told the TV mogul that she has a “beautiful new white horse.”
“She’s so special,” the “Applause” singer, who was accompanied by fiancé Taylor Kinney, told Seacrest. “It was such an old school record business moment that they sent me a white horse,” Gaga continued, “but it meant a lot to me. I’ve been working with Interscope Records for almost ten years now and it’s really a landmark of my time with them.”
“John Janick and Steve Berman have been with me for years there and [they] just are wonderful,” Lady Gaga concluded.
