Lucy Hale Eats Chocolate-Covered Bugs On ‘Live With Kelly And Michael’

Lucy Hale was put to the test during an appearance on Live! With Kelly and Michael on Tuesday. The Pretty Little Liars star told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan that she would try anything once when discussing eating bizarre foods during the segment.

Apparently, Lucy Hale is a huge fan of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. Hale has made comments in the past about how she enjoys the show and said that she isn’t afraid to try a few things herself.

Even Kelly joked that Lucy Hale didn’t want to be a pretty little liar after claiming she would do anything once. That’s when Michael got up to retrieve a cart of bizarre delicacies for the Pretty Little Liars star to enjoy.

The lineup of unusual eats included a tray of chocolate-covered larvae, grilled ox tongue, grasshopper tacos, and cold jellyfish. Out of all four stomach-turning dishes, Lucy claimed the ox tongue looked the worst according to People.

Michael Strahan made sure everyone knew he was not trying any of the unusual foods. Although there were three forks provided for the food tasting, Strahan said only two of them would be getting any use.

Hale and Ripa quickly began their taste test, starting with the chocolate-covered larvae. Lucy seemed excited to try the candied bugs, saying, “Are we going for this cuz there’s chocolate?” Then Hale, without hesitation, picked up one of the larvae and popped it in her mouth. Lucy even admitted she liked the chocolate-covered bugs.

Lucy Hale made good on her word and skipped right over the ox tongue, heading straight for the grasshopper tacos. Michael Strahan still refused to try any of the food despite Lucy and Kelly ‘s obvious enjoyment.

Even more fascinating is that Kelly Ripa doesn’t seem to mind trying a few questionable foods herself. Before Lucy even had a chance to jump in and enjoy a grasshopper-filled taco, Kelly was already munching down. Kelly Ripa shook her head and said, “It’s good,” prompting Lucy to try her grasshopper taco too.

At first, it looked like Lucy may not have enjoyed the grasshopper tacos but then she smiled and said, “I actually enjoyed that.” That’s when Michael Strahan must have decided he didn’t want both women making him look bad, so he took a big bite of a taco too. Strahan said, “Hey! It tasted just like chicken.” To which Lucy Hale replied, “It does, it’s not bad.”

Lucy never did taste the ox tongue or the cold jellyfish that kind of resembled chow mein. Maybe it would have been interesting to see the Pretty Little Liars star try something that she didn’t like. As it turns out, Lucy does like chocolate-covered bugs and grasshopper tacos even though she probably won’t be adding them to her meal plan.

The rest of the segment was spent with Lucy Hale talking about the upcoming season of Pretty Little Liars. Season 6B of the hit Freeform (formerly ABC Family) series starts on Tuesday, January 12, and fans couldn’t be more excited. Lucy explained that this season will take place five years in the future and even gave a few spoilers about what fans can expect.

“I am finally not playing a teenager. It’s amazing. Still younger than my actual age, but we’re getting there,” Lucy said of the jump forward. “So, we jump forward five years and the girls have seemingly lived an A-free life, but they’re all called back to Rosewood at the request of Alison, so you figure out what they’ve been up to, the careers they’ve chosen, their new love lives.” Will you be tuning in to see what happens to Lucy Hale’s character Aria and her friends on season 6B of Pretty Little Liars?
