How Katy Perry Got 80.6 Million Twitter Followers And Counting


Katy Perry has increased her Twitter following substantially in recent weeks and months — to epic proportions.

Daily Mail reports that Perry has now reached 80.4 million Twitter followers, but since that report, the number has increased to 80.6 million. That is a huge number that proves Katy Perry is the Queen of Twitter. In second place is Justin Bieber, at 72.9 million, and in third place is Taylor Swift, at 68.8 million.

Why is Katy Perry so popular on Twitter? She recently commented on this question, suggesting her popularity stems from the fact that she writes her own tweets.

“I would say 90 per cent of my Tweets, I’ve just made them up and you can tell because many of them are misspelled and full of typos. But the other five per cent is work related or it’s just to keep people in the know about where I’m playing or if I’m doing a show and I always get really confused.”

Here’s a perfect example from today’s Golden Globes.

Daily Mail also reports that Katy Perry previously told Mashable that she sometimes tweets back to fans, and that it depends on the zone she’s in.

“Sometimes I do, I kind of do a lot more of it when I’m in the zone mode. Right now I’m in a relaxed, chilled vacationing zone, I’ve got my spanx on and I’m just taking a little break… I think I have to find that balance between tweeting too much and plus I have so many followers that nobody really wants me to fill up their timeline.”

So when she’s not on Twitter or performing, what is Katy Perry up to? Daily Mail reports that she was seen leaving The Nice Guy nightclub at 4:30 a.m. with none other than ex-flame John Mayer.

Katy Perry did not want to be seen, and kept her long dark hair covering her face as the two got into a car and drove away. Perry was married previously to Russell Brand, a British comedian, but since then she told Harper’s Bazaar that she now approaches relationships from a different angle.

“What I’ve learned is that if you don’t have the foundation of self-love first, you really have nowhere to pull love from to give it away. I had to learn about taking care of myself before I could take care of others. I want to mommy everyone. I want to take care of them. I want to save them, and I forget myself in the meantime. I learned that through therapy.”

Good for you, Katy Perry! It appears Perry is learning and loving life. People reports that she recently filmed a new commercial for CoverGirl, a company she has been affiliated with for three years.

In a short, black patent leather dress with a wide red belt, Perry shows everyone how to plump their lashes.

Katy Perry is apparently happy to be the face of CoverGirl. She previously told People that she has always considered makeup to be a form of creative expression.

“In addition to music, I’ve always considered makeup to be a powerful creative avenue of self-expression.”

Katy Perry has even taken to Instagram to show off her new CoverGirl mascara ad campaign, doing a little “Pump Up The Jam.”

Katy Perry has also been enjoying her new game, Katy Perry Pop, which she showcased on Twitter on Christmas Eve.

Billboard reports that Niccolo de Masi of Glu Mobile, who created the Katy Perry game, divulged the strategy behind the celebrity games – developing original intellectual property.

“The celebrity games are the exception to the rule — an exception that we’re willing to make because… [those celebrities] have this tremendous social base that is built-in promotion.”

de Masi definitely doesn’t have to worry about a fan base with Katy Perry. Her Twitter is exploding at the seams.
