Mega Millions: $165 Million Jackpot Won By Staten Island Resident

While everyone seems to be awaiting the results of the $900 million Powerball draw that is scheduled for later today, we have news coming in from Staten Island about a lucky individual who just won $165 million in the Mega Millions draw held on Friday evening. According to the NY Daily News, while the identity of the Mega Millions winner has not been revealed, the winning numbers he/she chose have been. Here are the winning numbers: 11, 39, 51, 57 and 75, plus the Mega Ball 2.

A report by NY1 News said that a New York Lottery official confirmed that the Mega Millions ticket worth $165 million was sold at a Deli on Staten Island. The Deli was later confirmed to be the Willowbrook Deli located on Victory Boulevard on Staten Island. Officials said the winner has not yet come forward to claim the winning ticket. They also added that the winning Mega Millions ticket was a quick pick — in which the numbers were randomly picked.

Mega Millions has also issued a press release announcing the win. It reads,

“Mega Millions helped a lucky ticket holder in New York ring in the new year in a really big way. A single winning jackpot ticket was sold for Friday night’s drawing, matching all six numbers drawn. The estimated jackpot amount was $165 million ($101 million cash). The jackpot had been rolling since it was last won on November 13. That $202 million prize was claimed by the Lucky Duck Passive Trust of Columbus, Ohio. The jackpot had been rolling since it was last won on November 13. That $202 million prize was claimed by the Lucky Duck Passive Trust of Columbus, Ohio. Two tickets matched the five white balls in the January 8 drawing, sold in Maryland and Texas. They are worth $1 million each.

It further adds,

“Since November 13, more than 22 million winning tickets at all prize levels were sold, including 22 worth at least $1 million.”

Meanwhile, the owner of Willowbrook Deli is still amazed about the fact that the lucky Mega Millions numbers were selected at his store. Store manager Sarabjit Singh revealed that an official from the New York lottery called the store up at 7 a.m. in the morning to tell them that the winning Mega Millions ticket was sold at their store. Sarabjit was shocked to hear the news.

“A lottery official called us at seven in the morning to tell us.I was shocked.”,” Singh,35, told the NY Daily News.

Singh is now also hopeful that his store sells the winning $900 million Powerball ticket, too.

“Powerball is $900 million, hopefully, we’ll sell that ticket, too.”

According to the store owner, he has been witnessing a heavy surge of people who wanted to buy tickets for Saturday’s record-setting Powerball jackpot. Many of the customers who heard of the $165 million Mega Millions winner told they are happy to hear that someone won the huge amount.

The list of lottery ticket buyers included 92-year-old Virgenino Ferrari who wished the Mega Millions winner all the best. When asked what she would do with the money if she had won, Ferrari told she would give half the winning amount to her church.

“Happy for him. I hope he enjoys himself. If I won, I’d give half of it away to the church,” Virgenino said.

Another customer at the store, Camille Savino, said the Mega Millions winner has not come in public yet probably because he/she is busy working out how to spend the money. She was also slightly disappointed she didn’t play last night.

“I play here all the time, but I didn’t come last night. I guess it wasn’t my turn,” she says.
