‘Deadpool 2’ Release Date Could Happen: Where Will The Merc With A Mouth Go From Here?

With the hype surrounding the upcoming film, and trailers which seem to capture the feel we’ve been waiting for, a Deadpool 2 release date seems inevitable. Of course, this depends on how well-received the first movie is.

In a way, Deadpool is doing something similar to another Fox franchise which didn’t work so well. They attempted to reboot Fantastic Four, but ended up making a film which, despite having a better story, failed in almost every way.

Deadpool made his cinematic debut in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, though the character was nearly unrecognizable if you didn’t know who he was supposed to be. Fortunately, fans are feeling better about the possibility of rebooting Deadpool than they did about Fantastic Four. Hopefully, the movie lives up to fans’ expectations, and according to its R rating, it appears to be heading in the right direction.

If the Deadpool 2 release date does happen, director Tim Miller has revealed via Cinema Blend that the sequel could debut a character that fans know to be a big part of the character’s story. Cable and Deadpool have become reluctant allies, and even shared a series of comics, despite Cable actually being an occasional villain for the merc with a mouth.

Cable could also help Deadpool become further connected with the X-Men universe, something that Ryan Reynolds has mentioned previously via the Inquisitr. Cable is the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey’s clone, Madelyn Pryor, having grown up in an apocalyptic future and traveled back in time to stop that future from happening.

There was a touch of this idea in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and it appears that X-Men: Apocalypse could be a springboard for Cable’s existence as it introduces Cyclops and Jean Grey all over again. If Cable is brought in by the Deadpool 2 release date, we might get some cameos from Cyclops and Jean Grey, as well, in a flashback sequence.

Deadpool director Tim Miller had told Empire Online about other characters he almost added, and slipped in the possibility of adding Cable for the Deadpool 2 release date.

“[At] the end of that list was Negasonic, which I just thought was a freaky, funny name. And I sent this list over to the writers, Rhett (Reese) and Paul (Wernick), and they were like, ‘Oh my f***ing god, we have to use her!’ So that’s how she ended up in the movie. Her name was cool, and we kind of wanted a straight-man to play against Colossus. We thought about Cannonball, but he would’ve been a stupid hick character, whereas the guys wrote Negasonic as this deadpan goth teen, which was a great angle. She turned out really well. There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable. If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2 I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail.”

Someone else who could get his debut on the Deadpool 2 release date is T-Ray, a sorcerer who appeared in the comics with a backstory which made the merc with a mouth question his own identity. He’d sent Deadpool on an introspective quest to figure out if he really was Wade Wilson, or if he’d simply stolen that identity from T-Ray.

Another character who had become an adversary for one story was Punisher. Wade had been given Frank Castle as a target in a contract, and by the end realized he was out of his league.

Technically, Punisher is a Daredevil character, owned by Marvel now and a recurring character in the Netflix TV series. However, Spider-Man is still owned by Sony, and is being lent to Marvel for a few films. Quicksilver also had roles in X-Men and Avengers, just played by different actors. It’s possible.

Who do you think will be brought in if the Deadpool 2 release date happens?
