John Boyega Responds To ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Gay Rumors, Are Finn And Poe Romantically Linked?

It’s been just under a month since Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released into cinemas. Since then theories and rumors regarding the franchise and its new characters have been emerging on an almost daily basis.

One of the most discussed has been the possibility of romance between Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron and John Boyega’s Finn. These began before the film was released when Isaac, Bodega, and Daisy Ridley appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show.

During the interview, Ellen asked the trio whether there was any love interest between the threesome in the new Star Wars film.

The question was directed towards Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, but Ridley quickly dismissed it before Boyega joked that his character was far too busy “sweating, panting, and running” to even consider a romance.

It was at this point that Oscar Isaac joined the discussion and provided a rather surprising explanation for some of his acting choices. Isaac teased, “I think it’s a very subtle romance that’s happening. You have to just look very closely — you have to watch it a few times to see the little hints but, there was. At least, I was playing romance.”

Ever since these quotes emerged from Isaac, the internet became awash with theories and stories regarding a possible love story between the former stormtrooper Finn and the Resistance pilot Poe Dameron.

However, rather sadly, John Boyega has now come out and denied the possible romantic angle between the two characters, insisting that it’s all in Oscar Isaac’s head.

These quotes have emerged from an interview between John Boyega and Shortlist journalist Chris Mandle, who then uploaded these quotes to Twitter.

But for many Star Wars fans this quote is already too late. That’s because a hoard of fan art, memes, and pictures have been created that depict Poe Dameron and Finn romantically entangled.

This ranges from the pair cuddling up together, to them simply sharing romantically tinged glances.

But what are the chances that John Boyega is lying, and trying to misdirect the world, and that there is actually a romantic edge to Poe Dameron and Finn’s relationship?

Unfortunately, rather slight. While most moviegoers would fully support the creative decision to have Finn and Poe in a relationship, it would still, for some, be very controversial, and would probably lead to protests from some sectors of the world that would disagree with it.

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Finn decides to betray his stormtrooper roots by saving Oscar Issac’s Poe Dameron, who has been captured by the First Order.

Finn then assumes that Poe has been killed in an TIE fighter crash, but they are later reunited on D’Qar where they share a warm embrace. We’ll get to see if Finn and Poe are actually loved up when Star Wars: Episode VIII is released on May 26, 2017.
