Cleveland Browns Rumors: Johnny Manziel Done In Cleveland, Wants To Be A Dallas Cowboy

Rumors regarding Johnny Manziel and his tenure with the Cleveland Browns have been running rampant lately, and his time with the team could soon be coming to an end. Constantly getting into trouble and causing distractions, Manziel’s latest apparent Las Vegas escapade last night may have been the final straw. While the Las Vegas report is still unconfirmed, the Browns are getting tired of having to deal with the circus that he brings.

According to Peter King of Sports Illustrated, the Browns are “so done” with Manziel and wish to part ways with the former first-round pick. While their leash may have been longer if he was actually productive, Manziel has not yet shown that he is capable of being a competent starting quarterback in the NFL.

So what does Manziel have to say about the situation? According to ProFootballTalk, he failed to show up this morning, which is a requirement for players in the concussion protocol. Earlier today, The Inquisitr reported on the Las Vegas situation, and it appeared as though Manziel had cleared everything up and was on good terms with the Browns. After the initial report came out, he posted a picture with his dog, and it looked as though he was enjoying a quiet night at home.

If Manziel went through the effort to show that he was not in Las Vegas last night, why did he not show up today? Something is clearly amiss, and this is just another situation that the Browns do not want to deal with. With the Browns firing coach Mike Pettine and general manager Ray Farmer today, Manziel is not making a great impression on the next coach and general manager. According to King, that may be a part of his plan.

Since he is from Texas, it makes sense that Johnny Manziel would want to go back to his home state and play for the Dallas Cowboys. The question is if Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would want him on his team. According to Jones, Tony Romo still has 4-5 years left of productive football, and Manziel is likely looking for a starting job. While Jones and the Cowboys have signed or traded for problem players in the past, they could be looking to avoid the headache that he would bring.

Regardless of the potential problems that he may cause, Business Insider reported that Jones is still upset that he did not draft Johnny Manziel in the 2014 NFL Draft. Everything fell in line, as he was available when the Cowboys picked in the 16th slot. While Jones thought Manziel was the guy and wanted to draft him, he was apparently talked out of it by everyone in the Cowboys war room. In an interview with ESPN, he spoke about Manziel, and why drafting him was a risk that he wanted to take.

“When we were on the clock, I said, if we pick the other guy — any other guy — it would be a ticket to parity, more 8-8 seasons. The only way to break out is to gamble — take a chance with that first pick, if you wanna dramatically improve your team. That’s why I wanted Manziel, but I was the only guy who wanted him. I listened to everybody… and I’m… not… happy… The riverboat gambler can be his most charmin’, he can be his most clever, the smartest, and not know it’s all gonna end on the next card and he’s gonna be thrown overboard if it’s the wrong card. And a part of havin’ a tolerance for ambiguity is looking for the more positive and bein’ able to handle the negative because you’ve got more goin’ on.”

While the new Cleveland Browns general manager and coach may want to give Manziel a second chance, he is on thin ice with ownership and other team executives. While rumors of Manziel going to the Cowboys may be premature, both parties appear to have at least some level of interest.
