Colton Haynes Is Gay? — ‘Arrow’ Star May Have Casually Come Out In A Tumblr Post

Colton Haynes may win the prize for most casual way to come out ever. US Weekly reports that the Arrow and Teen Wolf star made the totally chill revelation about his sexuality on Tumblr.

This all started when a Tumblr user posted the following message on the micro-blogging platform:

“When I found out Colton Haynes had a secret gay past, I got so excited even though I know it makes absolutely no difference in my life.”

Haynes then used his own Tumblr account to respond. “Was it a secret?” the Teen Wolf alum wrote. “Let’s all just enjoy life and have no regrets.”

As The Huffington Post notes, Haynes hasn’t given any further clarification about what he wrote on Tumblr. But media publication and social media users have taken it to mean that Haynes has finally admitted that he’s gay.

Colton’s sexuality has been under speculation before. According to The Huffington Post, the “secret gay past” probably refers to a magazine photo spread March 2006 photo series that ran in the now out-of-print publication XY, which purportedly showed Colton Haynes kissing another guy.

According to Queerty, several blogs received notices from Bryan J. Freedman, an attorney claiming to represent actor Colton Haynes, that threatened legal consequences if they did not remove the “private, obscene, lewd and pornographic photographs” of Haynes kissing another guy. This happened around the time Teen Wolf premiered. As Queerty notes, Haynes was a minor when the photos were taken of him but they don’t seem pornographic or private. The show two boys kissing and appeared in a magazine that had a high circulation when it was in print.

In 2013, Haynes was spotted at an airport holding hands with his Arrow co-star John Barrowman, The Huffington Post reports, Barrowman, who is gay, and is married to his partner Scot Gil.

“He’s a great kid and we have a great time and he’s becoming a really good friend, which I think is really nice,” Barrowman said of Haynes.” Barrowman said when he was asked about the hand holding in an interview with Greg In Hollywood. Joshua Haynes, Colton Haynes’ brother is also gay.

Colton’s fans will also be used to seeing him posting photos of himself in Disney drag for Halloween. According to Out, Haynes loves to go all out for the holiday, wearing elaborate prosthetics that completely disguise his identity. In 2014, he went as Princess Fiona, Shrek’s ogre bride, and was completely unrecognizable.

In 2015, he wore an elaborate costume as well, dressing up as Queen Ursula from The Little Mermaid. He wore a fat suit, heavy makeup and a white wig.

Given his profession and his tendency to be extravagant with his Halloween costumes, you’d never guess that Haynes struggles with anxiety issues.

US Weekly reports that Haynes has been very open with his fans about how he copes with his crippling anxiety disorder. He even admitted to being hospitalized because of it.

“For those of you who are suffering with intense anxiety… ur not alone,” he wrote on Twitter. “It’s been a constant struggle for me since 5th grade. It’s a battle.”

“Whether it be fainting, hyperventilating, or seizures… I’ve been through it,” he also tweeted late last year. “Just know ur not alone & it affects more ppl than you would ever know. We can overcome this. We can fight thru it & will.”
