Demi Lovato Recovers From NYE — But It’s Not What You Think!

Demi Lovato started her New Year with a new headache. The “Cool for the Summer” singer had a wild New Year’s Eve, but it’s not the typical wild night’s out that most people in their twenties have.

Demi Lovato spent Jan. 1 resting in bed and drinking plenty of water to nurse her aching head. The singer has battled substance abuse in the past, so it’s clear that she didn’t drink alcohol on New Year’s Eve. Instead, the 23-year-old pop star was suffering from a killer headache after her pumped-up performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest in New York City. Looks like the New Year’s festivities got to her.

Lovato took to Twitter to write, “I have the worst headache this morning and I didn’t even drink last night. God bless those hungover today…May the hydration be with you.”

Prior to her big performance on New Year’s Eve, Demi took to Instagram to share this sexy selfie of herself resting on her pillow. She captioned the photo, “Post performance, pre countdown…Just waiting to watch the ball drop… #RockinEve”

When she was feeling pretty good that night, she shared a video on Instagram of the joyous NYE celebrations in Times Square at midnight, including a little dance from rapper Wiz Khalifa.

Demi Lovato took to stage on Thursday as she performed her hit songs “Cool for the Summer” and “Confident.” She was dressed up in a bedazzling black bodysuit with a black fur coat. Demi’s longtime boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama took a selfie and shared some support for his girlfriend while she was performing onstage.

In his Instagram post, he gave his thumbs-up along with the caption, “Watching one of the best vocalist[s] in music … And my little angel. #NYE2016 #HappyNewYear #RockinEve2016”

He also shared a photo of himself and Demi waiting for the New Year’s Eve midnight countdown, along with his own video of the exciting moment.

Despite having a headache, Demi Lovato did take some time to reflect back on her 2015 in her Instagram post, including those she lost.

“2015. As incredible as this year was.. This year was also extremely rough. Filled with some of the highest highs, I experienced some of the lowest lows. I said hello to a lot of amazing experiences and said goodbye to many that I love but everything happens for a reason and my skin got a lot thicker this year.”

In her lengthy Instagram post, Lovato mourned the loss of her beloved dogs Spawn and Buddy along with Uncle Billy, her grandfather, and her friend Chris.

Demi has always been open and honest about her struggles, including her drug and substance abuse. In a candid interview with Access Hollywood in 2013, Demi revealed that she couldn’t last a half hour without cocaine in her system.

“I think at 19 years old, I had a moment where I was like, ‘Oh my God…that is alcoholic behavior.’ [It’s] no longer, I’m young and rebellious and out having fun, it was, ‘wow, I’m one of those people…I gotta get my s**t together. I couldn’t go 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes.”

The former Disney star now leads a sober lifestyle. She also credits her boyfriend Wilmer for helping her battle her substance abuse and mental health problems. Though Demi has revealed that she would be singing about “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll” on her latest album, Confident, she has been staying true to her sobriety.

Instead of attending wild parties and hanging out with the wrong crowd, Lovato has been seen working out at the gym and spending time with her friends and family.

Demi Lovato also released her first book, Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year, which talks about her addiction, bi-polar disorder, depression, and eating disorder. She is currently writing a tell-all book, which doesn’t have a release date yet.
