Beyoncé Aims For Oscar By Telling Powerful Slave Story — She’s Producing A Movie [Video]

Beyoncé is a successful singer, and now she’s setting her sights on an Academy Award. Beyoncé is rumored to be writing a screenplay about Saartjie Baartman, a 19th century South African woman who was forced to tour freak shows in the United Kingdom due to the size of her rump.

Although Beyoncé has starred in movies before, including the award-winning Dreamgirls and opposite Mike Meyers in Goldmember, the “Single Ladies” singer is ready to be taken seriously as an actress. She reportedly hopes to tell the powerful story of Saartjie Baartman, who was sold into slavery to a Scottish man and later fought for her freedom in British courts. Baartman was forced to tour London freak sideshows under the show name Hottenot Venus, and tried suing her master, claiming she was not performing of her own free will.

Unfortunately, Baartman lost her lawsuit, and died around the age of 25 after a life of forced slavery because of her large derriere. Beyoncé may bring light to the terrible history and earn an Oscar in the process.

According to the Mirror, Beyoncé has hired a team of acting coaches and experienced screenplay writers to help the singer bring her vision into reality. Although her past movies have been well-received, and Beyoncé is considered to be a talented actress, she wants to take on a serious role. Beyoncé plans to star in the movie herself, as Saartjie Baartman, although there’s been no word about who her co-stars might be.

A Beyoncé insider spoke to The Sun to reveal that “Beyonce is desperate to be taken seriously as an actress,” indicating her past roles have not satisfied the artist. Beyoncé “still feels her breakthrough role is yet to come,” and is hoping this movie will be it.

The insider also said that Beyoncé “now wants to write a screenplay that gains her respect — and hopefully awards — from the film industry.” Given her past successes, Beyoncé will have no trouble racking up acting awards, and “[w]inning an Academy Award would mean everything to her.”

Since Queen Beyoncé is “a woman who is used to getting exactly what she wants,” it’s pretty clear she’s after establishing herself as a leading lady in addition to being a music legend.

Beyoncé and Jay Z reportedly rang in the new year on a beach in the Dominican Republic, attending an all-night beach party. Naturally, the power couple was mobbed, but their bodyguards were able to create a ring around the pair so party goers could look, but not touch.

According to the Daily Mail, Mr. and Mrs. Carter stopped by the Case de Campo beach party in the Domincan Republic at 3 a.m. on New Years Day to catch a glimpse of the fireworks display and hang out with pal Marc Anthony.

Earlier in the evening, crooner Marc Anthony played for the crowd with Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra, although it seems Beyoncé and Jay Z missed the performance. In footage obtained by TMZ, Beyonce and Jay Z can be seen dancing in a crowd of revelers as loud music booms in the background.

Beyoncé also made Christmas extra special for one little girl. After hearing the story of Safyre Terry, who was scarred in a fire that took the lives of her family, and learning via social media that the girl wanted to receive Christmas cards from all over the world, Beyoncé sent her a special Christmas present.

According to the Daily Mail, Terry received a Flawless T-shirt and a light up headband, as well as a personal card from Beyoncé, which read, “To My Survivor Safyre! You are such an incredible inspiration. Have a beautiful holiday.”
