‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ Preview: Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy Dish On What’s Ahead For The Big Bash

It is time once again to watch the ball drop in Times Square on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Host Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy are getting set to ring in the New Year with millions of people who are ready to celebrate.

Both Ryan and Jenny were on hand to preview the big bash in New York City as they made an appearance on Good Morning America on Thursday. Seacrest, the man of all trades, sat down to talk about the festivities that will happen tonight. He said that there will be a total of 38 performances that will be seen in both Times Square and in L.A.

The main event is, of course, Carrie Underwood, who will be live in New York. In addition, Luke Bryan, Demi Lovato, Wiz Khalifa, and Charlie Puth will be performing some of their favorite songs. As always, Fergie will be on hand on the west coast, delivering some of the best in music as well. She will have One Direction, Nick Jonas, DNCE, 5 Seconds of Summer, Fall Out Boy, Andy Grammar, and many more favorite artists.

This is the eleventh year that Ryan Seacrest has acted as host of this special New Year’s bash, taking over for the late Dick Clark, who started it all many years ago. He told GMA’s Amy Robach that he loves the whole atmosphere when the ball drops and the tune, “New York, New York,” begins to play. He described how he feels right at that moment when midnight strikes.

“I almost forget that I am still on television because you become a part of the crowd and you really enjoy just being there.”

The funny and crazy Jenny McCarthy has spent six years down in the crowd on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve chatting with people, and even getting total strangers to kiss. What does she have in store for this New Year’s?

She said that she is bringing her 13-year-old son, Evan, this year, and also her famous hubby, Donnie Wahlberg. Apparently the actor/musician is going to be doing a live rap tonight, as revealed by Ryan Seacrest. McCarthy will most certainly get her big New Year’s kiss on camera with her husband, but what about Ryan?

Jenny dished that she has been trying to get her co-host to get that midnight smooch for a while now. There was Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and yes, even the happily married Carrie Underwood, who were all beside Ryan at the stroke of midnight from year’s past. It does appear to be a little awkward each year when he and the musicians are standing there together wondering if they should give each other a kiss or something.

Jenny McCarthy also revealed her personal New Year’s resolution for 2016 on GMA. It is quite unusual. Well, maybe not for her. She says that she is taking the Carrie Fisher approach this coming year. This means that her goal is to start becoming more vocal, just like the Star Wars actress has done with scolding social media for complaining about her “aging” look. The 43-year-old said that her resolution is to start speaking her mind more. She said that she is tired of “taking the publicist’s high road.” Ouch! You have to wonder what her publicist thinks about that.

One thing is for sure, Jenny is happy to be back with her microphone in hand on New Year’s Eve bringing people together and celebrating the start of a brand new year. She dished on what makes the night so special for her.

“This is one time that I get to be around a million people who are unified and happy collectively and I literally every year get the chills and cry. I wish the world could be like this all the time.”

If you haven’t heard already, this is also the night that Taylor Swift’s brand new video for her song, “Out of the Woods,” will make its exciting world premiere debut.

Also, in case those One Direction fans out there have been wondering, the foursome will be singing “History,” Drag Me Down,” and “Perfect.” This may be one of the most anticipated performances of the night from L.A. Billboard has posted the whole set list of all the performers who are expected to be on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

There will be five and a half hours of music, fun, and a celebration to usher in 2016.

New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest will kick off at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
