‘Teen Wolf’ Spoilers: One Death Will Change Everything

Warning: This article may contain spoilers for Teen Wolf.

Teen Wolf came out strong with its fifth season and kept the heart pounding monentum going right up through the mid-season finale. As the supernatural drama prepares to pick up with season 5B, the thrill ride promises to get even bumpier and darker.

What does that mean for the already strained friendship between Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) and Stiles (Dylan O’Brian)? The news isn’t good.

Teen Wolf Proves That A Death Can Change Even The Strongest Friendships

Prior to the mid season break, Stiles was placed in a seemingly impossible position, when Theo (Cody Christian) attacked his father, Sheriff Stilinski (Linden Ashby). Stiles was left to choose between Scott and his father and, as most of us would, he stayed with his father, but it all may have been for nothing.

It seems that Stiles’ father is in greater danger of losing his life, when season 5B of Teen Wolf picks up, though not necessarily due to his injuries. Sources from the series reveal that the sheriff was exposed to a “mysterious infection,” during the altercation with Theo. Making this particularly troubling is Theo’s access to the Dread Doctors and their storehouse of exotic viruses. It’s entirely possible that Theo has infected Sheriff Stilinski with something outside the realm of modern medicine.

It seems clear by this latest trailer for Teen Wolf, which was first premiered to fans at the 2015 New York Comic Con, that the already strained friendship between Scott and Stiles will be further tested.

“Where were you,” demands Stiles of Scott, as he throws him to the hospital floor.

The mere fact that the brief look at this scene reveals that it takes place in the hospital suggests that it may have something to do with the sheriff’s fate. Could that be why Stiles is so filled with rage?

Can Scott and Stiles reconcile in time to face a new threat?

The tension between Scott and Stiles will come to a head in the first episode of season 5B, which is good for two reasons. First, Teen Wolf can’t possibly keep fans in agony over the fate of this incredible friendship for very long, especially when there’s so much more darkness and danger going on around them. Secondly, Scott needs Stiles. To borrow from The Blues Brothers, Scott knows he won’t survive unless he can “put the band back together” and Stiles is the first step in doing that.

Next on his list is getting help from the most powerful hunters he knows. There are references to this in the above teaser. Scott calls on the Argents for help, and, while many fans will delight to know this means Chris Argent (JR Bourne) will be back, it unfortunately also means that Gerard Argent (Michael Hogan) will be returning as well.

So, what does Scott need all of this supernatural fire power for?

Teen Wolf will resolve the threats posed by the Dread Doctors and the aftermath left by them, but just barely in time to prepare to defend themselves against a new danger. Sources suggest a new supernatural creature is set to arrive in Beacon Hills and this time it may have its eyes set on Stiles. The new villain, history’s most powerful werewolf, may have set its sights on making Stiles a part of its pack.

Even as all of this is going on, Teen Wolf will throw more drama into the mix, when a curious new stranger shows up and starts asking questions. Who is this stranger asking, of all people? Melissa McCall (Melissa Ponzio), naturally. Can Scott’s mother keep one step ahead of this stranger? Is this stranger somehow connected to the new werewolf in town?

Teen Wolf returns on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 on MTV.
