WWE: The Rock Vs. Triple H ‘WrestleMania 32’ Match Back On?

In October of last year, on an episode of SmackDown, The Rock and Triple H went face to face and strongly teased that they would eventually face each other at a future WrestleMania. Several WWE fans were convinced that the two legends would have a match at WrestleMania 32.

The buzz surrounding a possible Triple H vs. The Rock match got even stronger after “The Great One” confronted “The Game” at this past year’s WrestleMania 31. To many, the confrontation was a sign that the two of them would go one-on-one at AT&T Stadium in the spring of 2016.

In fact, that was WWE’s plan all along, until they were made aware that an insurance issue would prevent The Rock from wrestling at the event. Basically, the movie studio that is paying The Rock to be the star of a movie that is set to film around the same time that WrestleMania 32 is taking place doesn’t want The Rock to risk getting seriously injured by participating in a wrestling match. Therefore, they won’t allow him to wrestle.

The issue is something that The Rock has been trying to work through, and there really hasn’t been any indication that he has been able to work through it up until recently.

On Monday, The Rock confirmed that he would be appearing at WrestleMania 32. The fact that he confirmed that he would be appearing that the event three months beforehand has given some people the impression that he’s been able to work through the insurance issue and that he will end up wrestling Triple H after all.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, in reacting to the news that The Rock would be appearing at WrestleMania, suggested that The Rock and WWE wouldn’t publicize his appearance on the show if he wasn’t going to do something pretty significant — meaning a match with someone — as it would likely be a huge letdown if he did anything else.

“The Rock may be doing a match. It was all an insurance thing that they were trying to work through, and I was told previously that, most likely, he wasn’t even going to be able to be there, because he was going to be filming a movie at the time. But clearly he’s been able to get time off from the movie. Will he do a match? That’s an insurance issue, and I know they wanted to work though that. But it’s got to be something pretty significant, because if it was something minor, they wouldn’t be publicizing it this far in advance, because it’s going to lead to a letdown if he’s not in something fairly significant. So, whatever red tape there was, he clearly cut through some of it.”

Next week’s RAW is taking place in San Antonio, Texas. It’ll be the first show of 2016, and the fact that WWE announced that there will be a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Roman Reigns and Sheamus with Vince McMahon serving as the special guest referee is a good indication that they want to start the new year off with a bang.

In the opening segment of last week’s RAW, Vince McMahon suggested that Triple H would be coming back for revenge on Roman Reigns for what Reigns did to him at the TLC pay-per-view, and that it would come at a time where Reigns least expects it.

McMahon’s tease of Triple H’s inevitable return has many thinking that there will be a match between Reigns and Triple H at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view next month and that the build to the match will begin at next week’s RAW show.

WWE isn’t about to take the WWE World Heavyweight Championship off of Roman Reigns anytime soon, especially since they’ve finally gotten the fans to embrace him as the new top guy. However, it’s extremely likely that Triple H will return on next week’s show and try to cost Reigns the title.

Here’s what should happen if The Rock vs. Triple H match is actually going to happen at WrestleMania 32. If Triple H is going to try to cost Reigns the title, and if WWE wants to start the new year off with a bang, then, much like when he helped Roman Reigns out at this past year’s Royal Rumble, The Rock should make his return and give Reigns yet another assist, which would start the build to The Rock vs. Triple H.

Then, Triple H, who didn’t get his revenge on Reigns due to The Rock getting involved, still would have unfinished business with Reigns, which would lead to him challenging Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Of course, Reigns would defeat Triple H, retain the WWE Championship, and then move on to face the Royal Rumble winner, who will most likely be John Cena.

All of this depends on whether or not The Rock has resolved the insurance issue that was preventing him from wrestling, and if he has, him helping Reigns stick it to The Authority yet again would be a great way to start the build to a match between himself and Triple H at WrestleMania 32.

Whether or not The Rock shows up to assist Reigns on next week’s show remains to be seen, but it seems to be a given that Reigns will end up retaining the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. It would be devastating to the momentum that he’s been able to build over the last couple of weeks if he loses the title just a couple of weeks after winning it.
