Man Killed After Blowing Up A Condom Machine

It’s unclear whether it’s just Darwinism at work or a drunken prank gone wrong, but a German man died on Christmas Day while trying to blow up a condom machine. The man, working with two accomplices, was 29-years-old, and was killed after getting hit with shrapnel.

According to Deutch Welles, a man in Schoeppingen, Germany was hit in the head with a piece of metal after the condom machine exploded. The accomplices took their injured friend to a hospital in the nearby town of Ahaus where he died. The condoms and and the cash were found on the ground next to the machine pieces.

The New York Post said that the man’s friends initially lied when they brought him into the hospital, saying he had fallen down the stairs. It is still unclear whether the three men, all around 30, were trying to get money or just pull a Christmas prank, but one of the friends of the dead man said they were looking for cash. Police are explaining what happened.

“A German man was killed when he was smacked in the head by a piece of metal from a condom-vending machine he was trying to blow up in an apparent burglary attempt on Christmas.”

Maxim explained that the men were out joyriding when they stopped to blow up the condom machine. A Guardian representative explained that the death was by misadventure.

The AP reports that the three men “apparently got into a car after triggering the explosion, but the 29-year-old didn’t close his door and was hit by debris when the machine exploded.”

Though the two men were later released, police arrested them after finding the debris, and hearing from the hospital.

“The scattered debris caught the attention of police, who tracked down the two accomplices after they told hospital officials the third man injured himself by falling down a flight of stars. One later admitted that his injuries were caused by the exploding condom dispenser.”

The Australian reported that the man who was killed was trying to take cover as the machine exploded. A police representative reported that names have not been made public.

“The 29-year-old man was taken to hospital in the western town of Schoeppingen, near the Dutch border, by the two other men who fled the scene of the explosion in a car, leaving condoms and money scattered around the gutted vending machine.”

The BBC is reporting that the men had made the bomb at home and were driving around to decide what to blow up on Christmas Day. As the victim sought cover, he did not close the car door in time, and a piece of metal from the condom machine was lodged in his head. It is unclear how much change was in the condom machine at the time of the explosion, but it could not have been much, and the machine is emptied weekly.

The condom machine was made of steel and was left in pieces on the side of the road. The unnamed man was local, as were his accomplices.

Does this crime sound more like a dumb prank, or do you think it was done with the goal of making some money?
