‘X-Force’ Movie Characters Revealed In Concept Art — Will It Get Made?

Fox’s X-Men Marvel movie universe continues to take interesting turns. The Deadpool trailer hit Christmas Day, and concept art for another movie spinoff, X-Force, turned up on the internet Monday to reveal the possible lineup of mutant heroes with one mystery character. However, there’s a question about whether the movie will ever get made.

The concept art from artist Greg Semkow was dug up by ComicBook.com and features five characters reportedly taken straight from the script of the X-Force movie being developed by writer and director Jeff Wadlow (Kickass 2). Wadlow and Semkow collaborated on the concept art, which the artist describes as “freaking bada**.”

On the right is Warpath, who was seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past and played by Booboo Stewart. Next to him is Domino, followed by Cable at the front with the metal arm and big gun. Between Cable and Domino, you can see Cannonball blasting into the sky.

Who is the girl on the far left? ComicBook.com speculates that it might be Rogue, but exposed skin is not her style due to her mutant ability to steal powers and thoughts from those she come in contact with. Hope Summers was also mentioned as a possibility, but it is hard to imagine using Cable’s granddaughter in the opening movie and jumping into that convoluted X-Men comic plot so soon.

Another possibility from past X-Force comic line-ups include Boom Boom (aka Boomer), although she typically isn’t depicted with such long hair. Still, her chaotic personality and penchant for blowing things up with her mutant ability to create “time bombs” out of energy would give the film some entertainment factor, as the other four characters are fairly serious.

For those unfamiliar with the other four characters, Cable is the son of Scott Summers (aka Cyclops) who has come back from the future. His mutant powers are telekinesis and telepathy, but the use of both have varied in the comics due to the techno-organic infection that turned his left arm to metal. He is the leader and founder of X-Force.

Domino is a mutant mercenary with excellent marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat skills. These are enhanced by her probability-altering powers to essentially give herself good luck and her bad luck to her opponents. She and Cable have a history together as partners, confidantes, and lovers, plus she is one the group’s founding members.

Warpath is much as he appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past. He has enhanced senses for hunting and tracking along with superhuman strength, speed, and agility. He was one of the founding members of X-Force.

Cannonball is another founding member of X-Force and can generate explosive energy from his body to propel himself through the air like a rocket. The energy released also serves as a nearly invulnerable shield to protect himself.

Wadlow was hired by 20th Century Fox to write a script and possibly direct an X-Force movie in 2013. The production of the film has never truly kicked off due in part to the resounding positive feedback from the leaked Deadpool test footage trailer from earlier in 2015. This caused the movie studio to fast track Ryan Reynolds’ “Merc with a Mouth” and put X-Force on hold.

Whether the script and concept art that Wadlow and Semkow created will live on is definitely up for question. X-Force comics creator Rob Liefeld noted on Twitter the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse has changed the priorities in the X-Men movie universe while also pumping his other creation, Deadpool.
