Flaming Lips Steal 24-Hour Concert Marathon World Record From Jay-Z

The Flaming Lips have topped rapper Jay-Z who performed seven shows in seven different cities over a 24 hour period. The group this week performed eight shows in eight different cities over the same 24 hour period.

The band kicked off the gig in Memphis, Tennessee on Wednesday and then finished in New Orleans on Thursday. The “tour” was part of this years O Music Awards backdrop which celebrates the best in digital music. The awards took place online and followed the bands vintage tour bus “Endeavor” as it made each stop along the eight show tour.

During the eight combined shows 24 awards were presented to artists around the world including Selena Gomez (Best Artist with a Camera Phone) and 30 Seconds To Mars (Best Online Concert Experience).

Lips frontman Wayne Coyne tells StarPulse:

“To be published alongside the man who ate 22 pounds of his own boogers, beside the woman with the longest toenails or perhaps even to be published beside an individual who has had maybe 1,000 cockroaches stuffed into their ears… that, to me, would be one of life’s absurd joys.”

The record almost wasn’t broken as the band finished their last set with just 20 minutes left to spare

If you missed the bands shows you can check out various performances by the Flaming Lips, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and others on the officials website for the O Music Awards.
