Miley Cyrus Releases Surprise New Song & It Might Be The Saddest Christmas Song You’ve Ever Heard [LISTEN]
Miley Cyrus released a surprise new song today, and it might just be the wrecking ball of emotions that those who struggle with the Christmas season can relate to. According to E!, Cyrus’ new track, entitled “My Sad Christmas Song,” dropped on Christmas Eve. While many people find the holidays to be a time of great joy, happiness, and feel-good-Christmas songs, Miley’s new song is more for those who suffer from the sadness and despair that can be brought on by the holidays.
Cyrus belts out the first verse while a lonely guitar strums in the background:
“This is my sad Christmas song
I’ve had it stuck in my head all day long
I wrote it on the car on my ride home
Cause I knew I’d walk in the door and I’d be alone.”
Miley goes on to wail about a lost love and that to numb the pain she will “rip another bong.” Cyrus’ sadness continues as she discusses her poor behavior, from drinking to baring it all, and the disappointment she’s caused Santa Claus. The depressing nature of the song could be Cyrus’ way of admitting her own loneliness or just Miley’s way of giving a shout out to her many fans who could be experiencing the holiday drudgery of being single.
US Magazine circulated rumors in September that Miley was dating comedian Dane Cook, an assertion that Cook denied when asked by the media. According to People, a source said Miley was not ready for a steady relationship at that time and was enjoying being “single” and “free.” Even if Cyrus isn’t in a relationship at the moment, fans of Miley can rest assured that she really isn’t all alone for the holidays, as Cyrus has posted several pics on her Instagram account in the past couple of days including one with her mother Tish and one each of her cuddling with her beloved cat and dog.
If this sad Christmas song really is based on Miley’s love ghost of Christmas past, however, one has to wonder what former love interest has given her a case of the Christmas blues. Cyrus has been linked to Victoria’s Secret model Stella Maxwell as well as Patrick Schwarzenegger this year after declaring herself “pansexual.” But really, Miley just hasn’t seemed quite the same since her break up with former fiance Liam Hemsworth.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth had an on again, off again relationship from 2009 to 2012 in which they announced their engagement. In September 2013, however, Liam and Miley called it quits for good. While some have suggested that Hemsworth was the inspiration for her song “Wrecking Ball,” it’s quite possible he is also the much missed love that Cyrus’ “My Sad Christmas Song” has Miley pining away for.
Regardless of who the song is about, undoubtedly the people the song is for–both Miley fans and those who find themselves down in the dumps for the holidays–are wondering if this is just a one track deal or if a Miley Cyrus Christmas album is in the works. More than likely, given how late into the season the song was released, it is just the lone track. However, if there is one thing Miley Cyrus has proven as she has progressed in her career, it is that she is anything but conventional.
