WWE News: Vince Russo Defends Heat On Kevin Owens And How He’d Book Him As A Top Guy

There’s been a recent feud on social media between a new-WWE superstar and one that used to write WWE television. Kevin Owens came up to the main roster in the fall, and hasn’t left since. Reason being, he’s done nothing but succeed. On his first night, he defeated John Cena at the Elimination Chamber special on the WWE Network. After that, Owens would go on to win an Intercontinental championship.

He held the belt for several months, and dropped it to Dean Ambrose at the WWE TLC pay-per-view. Now, Owens is currently feuding with Dolph Ziggler. They will most likely wrestle in a triple threat match at the Royal Rumble with Ambrose for the Intercontinental championship. However, despite Owens’ success, he doesn’t have all of the followers he deserves.

Vince Russo, the aforementioned former-writer of WWE programming, isn’t a big fan of Owens. The key word there is “big.” Russo has criticized Owens’ look in the past. KO understands that, and even called out Russo on Twitter.

After that short-rib by Owens, Russo decided to talk at length about his “feud” with Kevin Owens. In a podcast done on Wrestling Inc., Vince Russo talks about the heat with Owens and how he would book him as a top guy.

“When we first see Kevin Owens, who is he? A sumo wrestler, a freak. The last 24 hours on Twitter, Kevin Owens’ fans have said he’s a bad a**, a bully and a prize fighter. So right there we have a problem. His own fans are giving us three different descriptions of who this man is. Bad A** — two weeks ago I watched as Kevin Owens stood in the middle of the ring, got a Coke and popcorn and thrown in his face. Dean Ambrose walked away and there were no ramifications. That’s not a bad a**. Take that off the list. My understanding of a bully is, is someone that picks on someone not his own size, people he could take advantage of. Kevin Owens out the chute went after John Cena. We can take that off the list. What on Earth has Kevin Owens done in his character that is a prizefighter? If that’s a joke that it’s an overweight guys who calls him a prizefighter, that’s one thing, but that’s not what they’re doing here.

“When you have all these questions and there are no answers, and Owens doesn’t have a clear cut character, being overweight is going to hurt him. If you don’t understand his character or no where he’s coming from, it’s going to hurt him.”

The fact that Russo is taking time out of his day to discuss Kevin Owens actually suggests he’s a fan of the former-NXT Heavyweight champion. What Owens is doing in the ring is truly unprecedented for the WWE main roster. Nobody knows how to interact with the crowd as a heel better than Owens. Much like Seth Rollins would talk to Michael Cole or look at a fan, Owens does it just as well.

Russo’s point on how Owens is as a character is actually spot-on. Who is Owens to the WWE Universe? He cut a promo about how he was going to make Dean Ambrose crazy. Well, last night’s abysmal episode of WWE RAW didn’t showcase any hatred or disdain between the two. In fact, Ambrose and Owens didn’t interact at all.

So, why is Owens getting popcorn and soda thrown in his face the one week, but destroying anything in his path the following week? He’s confused, as is the WWE Universe. Owens can be a top guy in the WWE, which Russo even admitted to. However, if WWE officials don’t give him a hand, Owens will be as Russo says, confused.
