Kenny Rogers Opens Up About Donald Trump

Country music superstar Kenny Rogers is putting all his chips, as it were, on Donald Trump for president.

In an interview, the legendary singer/songwriter admitted about Trump, “I love what he says.”

Perhaps best known for the classic hit “The Gambler,” Rogers, 77, in September announced his retirement from show business effective after the conclusion of his current Christmas tour.

A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Rogers has had about 120 songs hit the music charts in multiple music genres. He topped both the country and pop charts for more than 200 weeks in the U.S. and sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

Kenny Rogers appears in a satirical GEICO commercial that is still in heavy rotation where he annoys fellow poker players with the famous “You’ve got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em” refrain from “The Gambler.”

Rogers’ pro-Trump comments came before the latest controversy du jour, i.e., the New York real estate mogul claiming that Hillary Clinton was “schlonged” by Obama in the 2008 presidential campaign.

In an interview with the Guardian, Rogers conceded that his admiration for Trump is not shared by his family.

“I really like him. I think his problem is that he says what everyone wants to hear, but he doesn’t say it well. I love what he says, I have to admit. He can be president and not owe anybody anything; he’s one of the few people has the money to do it, and has the guts to do it. You’re biting off a lot by doing that. He believes everything he says: whether he’s right or not, he says what everybody fears. My older sons laugh at me when I tell them that. They are Democrats that live in California — there’s no hope for them. They’ll vote for Hillary no matter what she does. She’s a friend of mine, I’m not trashing her.”

In retirement, Rogers indicated wants to spend more time with his family, especially his younger twin boys (age 11) and also apparently plans to build a high-tech, musical theme park in the Atlanta area which will be called Kennyland or Kenny World.

“Over the course of a stellar career, [Kenny Rogers] has received three Grammys, 11 People’s Choice Awards, 18 American Music Awards, eight Academy of Country Music awards and six CMA awards. He was honored as the CMT Artist of a Lifetime at a ceremony earlier this month to coincide with the release of his latest album, ‘Once Again It’s Christmas’,” Billboard explained.

According to most polls, Donald Trump is still the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination in election 2016, much to the consternation of the GOP establishment and most media outlets as well his foes in the other party. As part of his campaign slogan to “make America great again,” Trump has promised to build a “beautiful” wall across the U.S.-Mexican border, bring manufacturing jobs back from overseas, and has proposed a temporary ban on Muslim immigration into the country.

A recent study found that Trump’s support among college-educated voters might be higher than polling data suggests because publicly backing the politically incorrect billionaire and ex-Celebrity Apprentice host could be seen as socially undesirable.

Former NFL star Shawne Merriman apparently also likes Trump, based on what he told the TMZ street cameras when he was asked about the Tom Brady-Donald Trump friendship.

“I take Donald’s Trump side. He’s a good friend of mine…He’s a little bit more honest than others…there’s not much to choose from, and I think he should be.”
