Taylor Swift, Rihanna, And One Direction Had The Worst Songs Of 2015

Sometimes, very talented artists screw up. Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and One Direction are all great artists who have released songs that will be listened to years from now. However, they’re not immune to making mistakes every once in a while.

Taylor Swift’s 1989 was the biggest selling album of 2014 and was in the top ten for most of 2015. 1989 will most likely be considered the peak of Swift’s fame. “Shake it Off,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” and “Bad Blood” are all top-notch singles supported by top-notch videos. Because of this, one wonders why “Wildest Dreams” was chosen as the final single. The song sounds like a parody of a romantic song with lyrics that were created by an 8-year-old.

“He’s so tall and handsome as hell/He’s so bad but he does it so well/I can see the end as it begins,” Swift sings unconvincingly.

Lauren Duca from the Huffington Post said the video was racist, but that accusation is ridiculous. At worst, Taylor Swift’s most recent video was just poorly directed.

Speaking of making mistakes, Rihanna really went off-brand with the “B***h Better Have My Money” project. The problem with the “B****h Better Have My Money” video in particular wasn’t that it was racist and sexist, as Sarah Vine from the Daily Mail believes. The problem was that the poorly written and produced song took away from the interesting visuals.

“Ballin’ bigger than LeBron/B***h, give me your money/Who y’all think y’all frontin’ on?/Like brrap, brrap, brrap,” Rihanna tries to convince music listeners, who made sure the song wasn’t a top-ten hit like most of Rihanna’s releases.

However, like Taylor Swift, Rihanna could be forgiven for this mess, especially since she released the wonderful “FourFiveSeconds” with Paul McCartney and Kanye West. “American Oxygen” was also a great song, although it has been her lowest-charting single to date.

Then there is One Direction, who had a lot of hype with the release of “Drag Me Down.” After debuting at No. 3 the first week of its release, the single flopped down to No. 26 in it’s second week, according to Billboard. “Drag Me Down” feels like a puppy-love song that sounds good on the first listen, but gets progressively worse. The song has the same vibes as “Larger Than Life” by the Backstreet Boys. Unfortunately, the vibes are very negative.

The most obvious reason that “Drag Me Down” fails is that one instantly misses Zayn Malik, where the band should have reminded us that they can survive without him. Luckily, the songs on their fifth album Made In The A.M. are much better and concentrate on the band’s strengths rather than the weaknesses that “Drag Me Down” revealed.

Taylor Swift will be taking a much-deserved break in the new year and needs to since such an (unfair) backlash is brewing. Rihanna is about to release ANTI, which fans have been waiting for all year. It’s obvious that Rihanna is being careful since her singles this year haven’t charted as high as she is used to. As for One Direction, they are taking a break and given that their music isn’t selling nearly as well as it used to, that’s a good thing.
