‘Star Wars’ Stunt Double To Have Arm Amputated After Serious Accident

Olivia Jackson worked as a stunt double in the latest Star Wars film, as well as Mad Max: Fury Road, but had a horrific accident while on set for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. She now has to have her paralyzed left arm amputated following the freak accident.

The Inquisitr reported about the accident back in September, saying how utterly devastated Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich was at the news.

Reportedly Jackson — playing Jovovich’s stunt double at the time — collided with a camera crane while performing a high-speed motorcycle stunt in Johannesburg, South Africa, sending her to hospital with multiple severe injuries. Jovovich mentioned the Resident Evil film crew’s dedication to Jackson at the time, saying how deeply affected and touched she was at their response to the incident.

Prior to filming Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Jackson, 32, had been a stunt double for both Charlize Theron and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) and had also acted as a stunt double in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She was also Karen Gillan’s double in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Gwyneth Paltrow’s double in the movie Mortdecai (2015). Jackson also worked on Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).

After the accident, Jackson was placed in an induced coma for two weeks. She explained to her fans on Facebook.

“2 weeks in a coma, brain bleed, brain swelling, severed main artery in the neck, crushed & degloved face, several broken ribs, paralyzed arm, shattered scapula, broken clavicle, broken humerus… radius & ulna (arm bones), with an open wound and a 7.5 piece of bone missing, amputated thumb, torn fingers, 5 nerves torn out of the spinal cord…. not my funnest day on set.”

When the accident happened in September, her British husband, David Grant, 36, who she married during 2015 and who is also involved in stunts, traveled to South Africa to be with her.

At the time he wrote on Facebook, “I want you all to know that she has been making steady progress and your thoughts and good vibes are all working so please keep them up!”

“She’s my inspiration and my world and one tuff little mother f****r!

“She’s fighting hard and the team of people working on Olive have been amazing and have been doing some incredible work.”

However, even with extensive medical treatment, her left arm was left paralyzed and as reported by the Mirror Online, Olivia Jackson has now revealed it will need to be amputated. She also said her face is badly scarred, but she is still grateful to be alive.

“My left arm is paralyzed and is going to have to be amputated… My facial scarring is horrible and I wish I had my old face. But I’m truly grateful to be alive.”

Olivia Jackson was born in Cape Town, South Africa, and, according to her IMDb page, has been working as a stunt woman since 2011. Jackson is also a trained pro fighter, who competed in Thailand for five years.

She then returned home to South Africa where she worked as a model, actress, and stunt double. According to her Facebook page, she is now living in London with her husband. There are no reports as yet as to how the amputation of her left arm will affect her ability to work.

As reported by Paris Star Online, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the sixth movie in the franchise and was written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, Jovovich’s husband. The film is scheduled for release in January, 2017.
