Mary Kay Letourneau and her husband, Villi Fualaau, will sit down and discuss their relationship with Barbara Walters on her hit show American Scandals. The Inquisitr covered the premiere of Investigation Discovery's American Scandals a few weeks ago, which profiles shocking old cases that Barbara Walters has reported on over the years. The premise of the new show is to update viewers on how they are now. Some of the stories that have been featured on the show include the OJ Simpson case, the case of JonBenét Ramsey, and the case of the Menendez brothers. In Monday's American Scandals episode entitle "Forbidden Love," Barbara Walters will reacquaint viewers with the story of Mary Kay Letourneau, the teacher who had sex with her 13-year-old student back in the 1990's. The case captured nationwide attention due to the strange nature of the story.
Over the years, people have continued to be fascinated by this case. A movie based on it entitled All American Girl: The Mary Kay Letourneau Story, starring Penelope Ann Miller, aired on television for the first time in 2000. Those who have kept up with the the case over the years have seen it evolve from a story that first outraged the American public, to a story that some now say is one that reveals a deep passion and a real love between two people. Others say no matter how the people try to normalize this relationship, it doesn't change the fact that Letourneau had sex with a child.
The story broke back in 1996. It was then that Americans saw a pretty, blonde 35-year old teacher who became so inflamed with passion for her student that she had sex with him everywhere she could. Even after she was jailed, her love for Villi Fualaau continued, and once she was released from prison, she continued a sexual relationship with him. Authorities say the infamous teacher had known Villi Fualauu since he was in the second grade, and speculate that the relationship with him may have started when Fualaau was just 12-years-old. Mary Kay Letourneau lost everything, including her own husband and her four children from that marriage. She eventually pleaded guilty to child rape, according to The Columbian.
Barbara Walters American Scandals will give viewers some insight on how they kept their love alive after Letourneau was released from prison in 2004, and what life has been like for them since they legally married. People Magazine wrote about the beautiful wedding ceremony.
"Letourneau, 43, wore an embroidered Cristiana Couture gown and had four bridesmaids in her party, including her teenage daughter from her first marriage, Mary Claire, who served as her maid of honor. Her daughters with Fualaau, Audrey, 8, and Alexis, 6, were her flower girls. Fualaau's family strung together 4,000 orchids shipped in from Hawaii for the bridesmaids' leis and head wreaths (a nod to his Samoan heritage).() At the reception, guests dined on macademia-nut-encrusted halibut from a buffet-style menu. Japanese lanterns hung from the ceiling and tables were festooned with gold lamé tablecloths.() After dinner, a five-tier cake concocted from different confections – including white-chocolate raspberry mousse and chocolate cheesecake – was served. It was decorated with 500 individually placed frosting flowers, to match the flowers on Letourneau's dress."[embed]https://www.facebook.com/RadarOnline/photos/a.10150286464341712.330316.376279216711/10152691277236712/?type=3[/embed]
Today, they are still together and raising their teenage daughters. Recently, Mary Kay Letourneau has been trying to have her name removed from the sex offender's list.
