‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2’ — ‘Hateful Eight’ Star Kurt Russell To Play Chris Pratt’s Father?

Depending on how the negotiations work out, Kurt Russell may be set to join Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Although nothing officially has been signed, the Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that Russell is being heavily considered to play the part of Peter Quill’s father.

As it currently stands, Russell is in the preliminary stages of negotiating a deal with the studio to appear in the movie as Star-Lord’s mysterious father. Although Marvel and director James Gunn are confident that Russell will soon be on board with the project, the veteran actor has yet to read the script for his character. Even still, the chances of Russell landing the role appear to be high.

Gunn will be returning to both direct and write the sequel to the hit Guardians of Galaxy film, which managed to take in over $700 million in 2014. At the same time, the majority of the main cast are also set to reprise their roles, including Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper. As far as newcomers are concerned, it has been announced that Pom Klementieff is set be introduced in the film.

In the first movie, it was revealed that Pratt’s character, who prefers to be called Star-Lord, had a regular human from earth as a mother but an alien as a father. Unfortunately, his mother died of cancer before telling him the true identity of his father.

Although his father is brought up in the first film, his identity was never revealed. The storyline of Star-Lord searching for his long lost dad is expected to be a major part of the story in the sequel, with the characters set for some kind of meetup in the movie.

If Russell and the studio end up reaching an agreement, then fans will see the veteran actor return to the big screens in a major way. Russell has a long history of film credits, which date back to the ’80s with movies like Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China. Given his history of playing iconic characters, there is little doubt that fans will be excited to see Russell join the Guardians of the Galaxy crew.

More recently, Russell has seen a sort of revival of his career in the movie industry. In fact, the veteran actor recently received recognition for his role in Bone Tomahawk, and is set to appear in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film, The Hateful Eight, which is set to be released on January 1.

With Russell’s career taking off once again, there is little doubt that an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy would be a huge boost for the actor. Then again, Russell will surely have to juggle recent developments in his personal life if he wants to make time to film for the new Guardians movie.

As far as his personal life is concerned, the Daily Mail is reporting that Russell is set to marry his longtime girlfriend, Goldie Hawn. The two have been together for 30 years and are planning to wed in Aspen in 2016, which is around the same time that production is expected to start for Guardians.

In addition to Russell joining the project, it has been announced that Klementieff has been cast for the role of Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Klementfieff’s career has been surging as of late, with the actress’s recent appearance in Oldboy, which also starred Josh Brolin.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017, while production for the move is expected to begin in the early months of 2016.
