Disney’s $200 million bet on The Force Awakens promises to be a huge win for the studio and not just because it’s a great movie.
Diehard Star Wars fans will have to see the film over and over again to pick out all the secrets left by director J.J. Abrams, who’s famous for sprinkling his movies with Easter Eggs, and that’s going to help blast the movie into the box office hall of fame.
With total opening day ticket sales topping $100 million, the movie has already become the first in history to hit triple digit sales in a single day. With worldwide sales expected to top $250 million by the end of the weekend, Disney is essentially printing money, according to the AP.
Fans will keep coming back, if only to dig out all the secrets left by Abrams.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, then be warned: the following contains minor SPOILERS.
The James Bond star plays a white clad Stormtrooper in one pivotal scene with Daisy Ridley, who plays light-saber wielding Rey. After she’s captured by the movie’s main bad guy, Adam Driver’s character Kylo Ren, she’s left alone with James Bond. Rey tries to use an old Jedi mind trick to free herself.
Funnily enough, Craig adamantly denied his cameo role while he was promoting his new Bond movie SPECTRE even though fellow actor Simon Pegg had already leaked the news to the press.
Oh, and Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in Star Trek and also starred in the reboot of Mission Impossible, was also in Star Wars as Unkar Plutt, an alien who ran the Jakku trading post.
A longtime J.J. Abrams collaborator, the composer for Lost and Star Trek can be spotted as a Stormtrooper named FN-3181 in the credits. He throws Poe Dameron down in front of bad guy Kylo Ren at Starkiller base.
There’s some rumors the number 3181 is a jumbled 1138, which is a reference to George Lucas’ first science fiction film THX1138, according to /Film.
The producer and unofficial sixth member of Radiohead can also be spotted playing a Stormtrooper, this time credited as FN-9330. NME reports Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright helped him get the cameo role.
This Lost actor can be spotted in General Leia’s retinue playing the part of Admiral Statura.
This actor from Heroes plays Snap Wexley, an X-wing pilot fighting for the Resistance as part of the Starkiller Base attack squad.
The actor who played the Ewok Wicket in Return of the Jedi is also credited with an appearance.
Scream Queen star Billie Lourd, Carrie Fisher’s daughter, can also be spotted in the seventh installment of the Star Wars franchise playing a member of the Resistance.
The newest Star Wars droid was given voice, or strange beeping sounds, by comic actors Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz. They were given credit as vocal coaches which apparently meant they made weird sounds while Abrams recorded them.
Judah Friedlander, from 30 Rock, can also be spotted as a bargoer while Abrams’ father Gerry Abrams can be seen playing Count Cypress.
The Force Awakens takes place 30 years after the events in the original movie trilogy and includes many of the original characters including Han Solo, Leia, and Chewbacca.
