Mercy Johnson: Nollywood Actress Shows Off Baby Photos, Could Have Big Acting Honor Ahead

Mercy Johnson is just a few days removed from giving birth to her third child, but as the Nollywood actress shares pictures of her newest addition she is also preparing for what could be a big industry honor.

Johnson welcomed baby No. 3 last week, a baby girl. The actress, who is normally on the private side, shared some pictures from the hospital of the baby girl.

Just a few weeks before, Mercy Johnson had shared some pictures of her other two children and her growing baby bump. The Net shared the pictures, which were taken during her visit to the United States with her husband for Thanksgiving.

“I know where my hope lies and where my help comes from.thank you lord,” she wrote on one of the photos.

But as Mercy Johnson takes care of her newest baby, she is not far from the work that has made her famous. The actress is nominated for a 2015 Ghana Movie Award, which are being awarded December 30 in Accra.

Johnson is nominated in the category of Best Actress African Collaboration for her role in 30 Days in Atlanta. The movie, which actually hit cinemas in Nigeria in late 2014, wasn’t a big hit with critics, who called it a cliche filled with stereotypical jokes, but it was wildly popular with audiences. The romantic comedy ended up being the highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time.

As Today’s Woman noted, the movie had a strong supporting cast and has already taken home a handful of honors.

“The movie saw a full and vibrant cast that included Desmond Elliot, Mercy Johnson, Majid Michel, Juliet Ibrahim, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Vivica Fox, Lynn Whitfield, Karlie Redd, Ada Ameh, Omni Oboli, Yemi Blaq and Kesse Jabari. 30 days in Atlanta has won awards for Best Film (Comedy), Best Cinematography and Best On-Screen Duo (AY and Ramsey Noah) during the Golden Icons Academy Award.”

Mercy Johnson delivered her first baby, a girl named Purity, in the United States on December 30, 2012. Johnson, who married Prince Odianosen Okojie in 2011, had her second baby on October 15, 2014.

Johnson has been rising in the Nollywood industry since her debut in the movie The Maid, where she played a possessed worker.

Johnson almost missed the spotlight entirely. She had originally planned to go to school instead of acting, but changed her course after failing university entrance exams.

It ended up being a good move. Mercy Johnson has appeared in more than 60 movies and gotten plenty of acclaim for it. She has taken home a number of industry honors, including one of the inaugural winners at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2012 for her role in Dumebi the Dirty Girl.

But she has had difficulty in the industry as well. In 2013 there were reports that she was in danger of being blacklisted within the industry after rumors that she was difficult to work with.

The newspaper Vanguard, reported that she was accused of disappearing while on set.

“There is an underground plans by the movie marketers under the aegis of Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, FVPMAN, to blacklist Mercy Johnson Okojie,, in what they call, ” Withdrawing of service from her.”

“A highly placed source who disclosed this latest move against the Actress to HVP, said, the association decided to take this action, following the ‘unbecoming attitude of the actress as it affects her work.”
