Even the biggest Tupac fans are doing a double take because of the jaw-dropping photo. Although the guy in the photo is Tupac, it’s not exactly as it seems. It has been reported that the production for Tupac Shakur’s long-awaited, highly anticipated biopic has finally begun. So, in essence, Tupac is alive and well.

Here is the photo that sparked the rumors about Tupac being alive.

According to XXL magazine, the Benny Boom-directed film, All Eyez On Me, has kicked off. After a series of multi-million dollar lawsuits and three different changes, it appears the production of the film is in full swing. The start of production has reportedly begun just in the nick of time. It has been reported that a previous lawsuit with Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur would deny rights to the legendary Death Row rapper’s music if production of the film did not begin before the end of the calendar year. On December 18, the cameras finally began rolling with less than two weeks before the lawsuit allowing rights to Tupac’s music was set to expire.

Over the past couple days, a series of production photos have been uploaded and shared via Twitter and Instagram. Many of the epic photos capture Tupac, portrayed by upcoming actor Demetrius Shipp Jr., in action as he begins filming what is expected to be an epic film. Shipp’s shocking resemblance to the slain rapper has led many to believe Tupac really is alive. However, this isn’t the first time fans have speculated about the rapper being alive.

Reports about the Tupac biopic follow a string of conspiracy theories about the rapper’s questionable death. For years, many have speculated that Tupac is still alive. Although it was reported that Tupac was shot several times on the night of September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas.

On that fateful night, an SUV carrying Tupac and his entourage was riddled with bullets. Tupac was shot several times but did not die at the scene of the crime. After six days in a medically induced coma due to a punctured lung, Tupac died on September 13, 1996. The coroner reportedly determined the cause of death to be “respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest in connection with multiple gunshot wounds,” according to Hollywood Life. Since Tupac’s body was cremated, no photos ever surfaced. This one detail has only added to the speculation that Tupac may still be alive because fans had no form of closure.

According to Oxygen, a number of other conspiracy theories about Tupac being alive have also been cited. A photo dated September 8, 1996 captured Tupac and Suge Knight in an SUV one day after Tupac was reportedly shot has also raised speculation. Then, there have been times where Tupac has also fueled rumors about his death as if the highly publicized moment in rap music never occurred. In his 1996 release, “Ain’t Hard To Find,” Tupac rapped about his death. One line, in particular, suggested that the entire shooting was only a rumor.

“I heard a rumor that I died, murdered in cold blood traumatized/ Pictures of me in my final states — you know Mama cried. But that was fiction, some coward got the story twisted.”

Although conspiracy theorists believe Tupac is alive and well in Cuba following the inspiration of his aunt, political activist Assata Shakur, who fled to Cuba in the 1980s, there is still no form of physical evidence to support all of the conspiracy theories claiming Tupac is still alive.
