‘Outlander’s’ Jamie And Claire Named MTV’s Best TV Couple For 2015

Outlander can officially add another award to its ever growing list of accomplishments. According to Scotland Now, everyone’s favorite couple on the show, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) have been named as MTV’s Best TV Couple for 2015.

Heughan and Balfe beat out some fairly stiff competition on their way to winning MTV’s couple award. In fact, the list of couples this year included Maggie Greene and Glenn Rhee (The Walking Dead), Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt (Parks and Recreation), and Caroline Forbes and Stefan Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries). The winner of the competition is determined by fan vote, which provides another example of how loyal Outlander fans truly are.

Along with the announcement of the award, MTV released a statement that praised Heughan and Balfe’s charitable works as well as their talents on the show. In fact, MTV declared Heughan and Balfe’s relationship on the show as being a fresh take on what it means to carry on a realistic adult relationship on TV. Additionally, Heughan and Balfe were also credited for bringing a level of sophisticated and genuine love to their character’s relationship.

In response to the award announcement, the official Twitter account for Outlander released a statement congratulating Caitriona and Balfe for winning the top couple award. “It’s no surprise to us that @SamHeughan and @caitrionambalfe topped @MTV’s Best TV Couples of 2015.”

Meanwhile, this year has been successful in the awards department for the hit series. In addition to winning their latest award, the show managed to gain three nominations in the upcoming Golden Globes award ceremony. Although Heughan was not among the Golden Globe nominees, Balfe and Tobias Menzies were given nods, as well as the show for Best TV Drama.

At the same time, Outlander was also voted as Radio Time’s Sci-Fi and Fantasy Show Champion of 2015, taking in over 70 percent of the total vote.

The success of the show comes as the series is currently in production for its highly anticipated second season. With that in mind, Yahoo is reporting that Outlander has officially released its first trailer for the new season. Although the video is shorter than fans would have hoped, the clip offers the first live views of the characters based on the bestselling novels of Diana Gabaldon.

The new season of Outlander will feature Claire and Jamie traveling to Paris, France, in order to stop the Jacobite Rebellion. Based on the material in the trailer, the second season will include a lot more sophisticated sets than season one, along with more political intrigue as Claire and Jamie enter the ranks of Parisian society.

In fact, both Jamie and Claire will be forced to become a part of the Jacobite Rebellion, which is being headed by Prince Charles Stuart, in order to prevent the Battle of Culloden from ever happening. In order to accomplish this, the couple’s relationship will be put to the ultimate test, especially considering Claire’s pregnancy. Will the two be able withstand the new challenges and keep their relationship strong?

Although fans will have to wait until the spring of 2016 until Outlander’s second season is released, producers are planning of dishing out 25 days’ worth of Outlander related spoilers in the coming weeks. In fact, Starz plans on releasing new photos, interviews with the cast, special Outlander themed recipes, and opportunities for fans to win Outlander merchandise. The material is expected to be released primarily through the show’s social media sites and will last until Christmas.

The second season of Outlander is scheduled to be released in the early spring of 2016.
