‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ Production Designer Teases New Details On Doomsday

Patrick Tatopoulos has had a hand in a developing some of Hollywood’s most iconic creatures, including the monsters found in Godzilla, Independence Day, Underworld, and Pitch Black. As the highly-respected designer sets his eyes on the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Tatopoulos recently released a few more details about his newest creation, Doomsday, in an interview with French Premiere (translated by Cosmic Book News).

“We are able to tell a story in a fresh way. Doomsday is an evolution essentially… Fans may be aware of the Death of Superman story, but this is handled in such a new way,” Tatopoulos explained in the interview. “When the film is called Batman v Superman it really has a lot of levels to the meaning.”

What kind of meaning is Tatopoulos referring to? Apparently, the movie will include a larger story arc that intends to reshape how viewers think of superheroes.

“Superman isn’t just killed off at the end of something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex’s plan to protect the world. Seeing the Superman we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings,” Tatopoulos stated. “It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod… then how would that [evolve] into Doomsday.”

This larger story arc is an interesting development, especially considering the studio’s plan to expand the DC Extended Universe with the upcoming Justice League films. Based on Tatopoulos’ comments, it appears as though the events that happen in Batman v Superman will impact what goes down in future DC movies, including the formation of the Justice League. It also begs the question about whether or not Doomsday survives Batman v Superman and lives to be included in a future film.

Meanwhile, fans were given a great look at Doomsday in the latest trailer, which led some to think that perhaps too much had been revealed. However, Tatopoulos promised fans that there is a lot more to the story than has been revealed so far, and hinted that a “larger threat” was looming.

“The timeframe of how things fall into place will surprise fans,” Tatopoulos revealed. “Doomsday isn’t just the final act. Those feeling they may know too much this early are going to be in for a true surprise.”

While Tatopoulos did not explain what this “larger threat” consisted of, it is interesting to note that something darker than Doomsday will be featured in the film. Exactly what that villain or threat will turn out to be is yet to be seen.

Even more, Tatopoulos could have been referring to Lex Luthor’s (Jesse Eisenberg) part in the movie, though it is anyone’s guess at this point. The only that is certain is that the movie still has a number of surprising turns in store for fans.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder, and it is set to feature a number of different superheroes, including Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman. The movie will also see the return of Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne, all of whom appeared in Man of Steel.

At the same time, Digital Spy is reporting that Ezra Miller will have a cameo in the film as The Flash. Although the details concerning Miller’s role in the movie are unclear, it is expected that his character will have a limited appearance in the movie.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to open in theaters everywhere on March 25, 2016.
