Katy Perry is encroaching on Kim Kardashian's territory with an app of her own that gives music-lovers the opportunity to seek advice from their favorite superstar singers and musicians.
The 31-year-old star wants to be able to mentor those who aspire to be singers with a game of her own. The Mirror shares details about Perry's addition to the celeb-app world.
"The app, 'Katy Perry Pop', allows users to create their "own pop star persona."A computerised version of the singer gives wannabees advice. According to the official description of the game, Katy Perry Pop lets players "feature in their own interactive journey from aspiring artist to pop stardom with Katy Perry in the fun and whimsical world of Katy Perry Pop. Get discovered by Katy Perry and chart your course to music stardom by recording songs, making music videos, and performing for thousands of fans around the world.'"
As noted, it isn't just the player's voice that is important in this Katy-inspired game. Players are also meant to style their character and choose from hundreds of outfits and looks. Even more innovative on Katy's part is the ability for players to create their own music videos to go along with their own music that they can create through the app.
Katy's game is being developed by that same company that took on Kardashian's app, Glu Mobile Inc., out of San Francisco. Glu Mobile CEO Niccolo de Massi spoke in regards to having Katy on board to produce her own Kim-style app.
"Size of social following, uniqueness of genre, ability to fit the core aspiration of their fan base to the game mechanic are the things that we look for. If you think about how much money people paid for Super Bowl commercials during her halftime performance in February, we're effectively channeling that promotional power and brand power to this game."
De Massi also points out the draw of having celebrities like Kim and Katy involved in creating gamer apps.
"There could be a lot of people playing Katy's game, I think, that don't necessarily consider themselves gamers. They'll probably say 'I've never played a game before but for Katy I will,'and that's pretty interesting from a demographic perspective."
It's certainly a manner to change the whole gamer appeal and to attract players who wouldn't otherwise be participating, all because of a singer's strong fan base and the players' love for music.
While Perry gets her app ready for the market, the "California Gurls" singer is enjoying some holiday cheer and is all about reminding friends and family of the holiday classics that are worth revisiting. Us Weekly shares details about a recent party and screening session Perry threw for her loved ones, involving a favorite 90s holiday film when the singer "treated more than 100 family members and friends to a private screening of 1990's Home Alone at L.A.'s Vista Theatre on December 13."
Friends close to Perry chatted about the star's love for the film and for throwing the ultimate get-together each year. Us relays the words of one source in attendance.
"It's one of Katy's favorite holiday movies. So she decided to screen it as her holiday party this year. Everyone there was people from her original crew. Katy was milling about in the lobby. At the beginning of the screening, she said, 'Thanks for coming. I'm bad at public speaking. Enjoy the movie!'"
There were reportedly no celebrities in attendance of the party -- just friends. Of course, Katy's parents were present for the chilled-out get-together. Guests chowed down on pizza and popcorn while enjoying warm beverages that included hot chocolate for the kids and hot toddies for the adults.
