Scream Queens star Keke Palmer is letting the world know how she feels about her sexuality, and it is anything but confining. In a recent interview with People, the actress opened up about her views on what defines sexuality, stating that she doesn't want to be categorized under a specific definition.
The questions surrounding Palmer's sexual preference first surfaced following her "I Don't Belong To You" music video, which was released back in October. The sexy video started with Palmer in bed with a man and included plenty of steamy shots of the actress, complete with lingerie. However, the most talked about part of the video happened at the end, which showed the singer standing at a woman's door dressed in nothing but her undergarments.
The music video immediately had fans questioning where Palmer identified sexually. For her part, Palmer finally put an answer to some of those questions in her recent interview. Specifically, the Scream Queens star explained how the video was supposed to highlight how women of today do not fit traditional gender roles of the past.
"The video was to represent the young woman today – it's not the traditional woman anymore – and not the specifics of 'Am I gay? Am I straight? Am I bi?'" Palmer shared in the interview.
In her statement, Palmer went on to add that she is not playing by anyone else's rules. Instead, she takes her sexuality one step at a time and does not want to be defined by the categories set by society.
"I'm making the rules for myself, and I don't have to be stuck down to one label," she stated.
While Palmer was not afraid of addressing the issue of her sexuality in the interview, she did share that releasing details about her own sexuality was not something she would be doing in the future. In particular, Palmer revealed that her sexuality changes too frequently for her to be constantly coming out and revealing the details of her sexual orientation.
"I don't feel the need to define nothin' to nobody, because I'm always changing. Why say that I'm this or that when I might not be tomorrow?" she explained to the outlet. "I'm gonna follow my own feelings and my own heart."
The recent revelations concerning Keke Palmer's sexuality are nothing new in Hollywood. In fact, according to ET, Palmer is not the only child star to be more than ambiguous about her sexuality. This past spring, Miley Cyrus came out and declared that she was "ready to love anyone."
"I never want to label myself!" Cyrus declared. "I am ready to love anyone that loves me for who I am! I am open!"
Considering Palmer's recent comments, there is little doubt that she shares the same sentiments as Cyrus. That being said, Palmer has not revealed anything about who her significant other might be at this time. With the actress' career continuing to blossom, this will definitely be something to keep an eye on in the coming months.
Meanwhile, with the first season of Ryan Murphy's Scream Queens now complete, Palmer has plenty of time to devote to her singing career, which includes preparing for a brand new album. With that in mind, there is always a possibility that fans will soon be treated to another music video from Palmer, though probably not as surprising as her last.
In addition to her upcoming music projects, Palmer is also preparing for her part in FOX's upcoming production of Grease: Live. Palmer is set to star alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Carly Rae Jepsen, Julianne Hough and a slew of other artists.
