‘The Vampire Diaries’ Star Ian Somerhalder Reportedly Trying To Salvage His Career

Ian Somerhalder, one of the stars of The Vampire Diaries, is reportedly trying to salvage his career. His wife Nikki Reed is helping him after he may have remained with the show for too long.

Celeb Dirty Laundry reports that Somerhalder is struggling and The Vampire Diaries is sinking. He may go the same direction as his former co-star and on-screen love interest, Nina Dobrev. However, despite leaving at the end of season six, the Bulgarian-Canadian actress has not had the success that she would have hoped for after leaving. She is struggling to shake off the fan opinion that she is Elena Gilbert from the show. Somerhalder may struggle to shake off his Damon Salvatore role should he leave the show.

There are many worries about The Vampire Diaries as a whole. While it is on its winter break now, the show will face a change of nights in January, and not for the better. The show, along with its spinoff, The Originals, is moving to Friday nights; often considered a death knell. Since the start of Season 7, the show certainly has not had the ratings that it used to, and the CW may be trying to force it off the air. The network did do this with Supernatural a few years ago, but it made a comeback and was moved back to Tuesdays and then to Wednesdays, where it stays now.

Reed has reportedly been trying to get her husband to pursue movies for some time now, but he seems to have been happy with TV shows. Before The Vampire Diaries, he had a role on Lost. Despite being killed off within the first two seasons, he came back for the final season in the flash-sideways clips. However, now that the show seems to be sinking, he has seen the light and realized that he needs to leave.

Fans have now found out that Damon is dead, with his soul trapped in the Phoenix Stone. That does not mean he will remain gone. Some have said that the actor is carrying the show, just not as well as many would hope. When The Vampire Diaries returns in January, Bonnie will release his soul from the stone and resurrect him. Yet Damon will believe he is still hallucinating and will attack Caroline. She is currently carrying Jo and Alaric’s twins after some Gemini Coven magic, and she will possibly give birth early.

The Vampire Diaries fans will also be disappointed at the breakup of Steroline. This has been a relationship many fans have called for over a number of seasons, and they finally got together in Season 7. However, the midseason premiere will show that they have broken up, and it will take some flash-forwards to explain why, along with how his relationship with Valerie started, according to Fashion & Style.

As for Dobrev’s return, The Vampire Diaries showrunners have stopped teasing the idea of her return. The actress made it clear that she will not come back, and now the show has brought in Leslie Anne Huff, who looks a lot like Dobrev. While the showrunners say that this was not to replace Elena’s character, many fans suspect that it has been done to try and boost ratings. Many fans said they would stop watching without Dobrev there, since there would no longer be the Damon/Elena love storyline. Elena helped to bring out the good in Damon, and now he no longer seems as interesting for many.

The Vampire Diaries will return in January with all new episodes on Friday nights. The Originals will air straight afterwards with its midseason premiere.
