Future of Resistance Franchise Uncertain

Now that Insomniac has moved on from developing Resistance, what does Sony have planned for the franchise? Not a whole lot, apparently.

In an interview with OPM UK, Daniel Brooke, who worked on Resistance: Burning Skies for the PlayStation Vita, said that Sony currently has “no definitive plans” to continue the Resistance franchise beyond Resistance 3 and Burning Skies.

“The Resistance franchise has been exciting to work on but as for the future we have no definitive plans,” Brooke said in the interview.

None of the recent Resistance titles were exactly stellar performers, to put it one way, so it’s not all of that surprising that Sony is reluctant to continue the franchise right now when they have more relatively reliable IPs, new and old, to fall back on.

Ted Price, CEO at Insomniac, had this to say earlier this year about the potential future of the Resistance franchise:

“We believe that Resistance has reached its logical conclusion, in terms of the story we wanted to tell,” Price said. “However, that doesn’t mean the Resistance franchise isn’t continuing. It’s already in the capable hands of Nihilistic. And with Sony’s shepherding we know it will continue to live on and expand.”

Do you want Sony to continue on with Resistance, or do you feel that it should end with Resistance 3 and Burning Skies?
