Gwen Stefani Gets Emotional As Christina Aguilera Prepares To Replace Her On ‘The Voice,’ Blake Shelton Wants To ‘See Her Next Season’

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, as well as their fellow coaches, Pharrell Williams and Adam Levine, are nearing the end of their run on The Voice Season 9. This week marks the season finale, and just like last night’s episode, the end of the season has been emotional for both Gwen Stefani and her boyfriend, Shelton.

After tearing up during Barrett Baber’s performance of Thomas Rhett’s “Die a Happy Man” on last night’s episode of The Voice, host Carson Daly wanted to know where Gwen Stefani’s burst of emotion came from.

“It all came together, letting it come out and tell a story it was really really good,” Gwen Stefani said through tears, according to a report by People Magazine on December 15.

This week, during a press conference regarding The Voice, Shelton spoke of the casting dynamic between himself, Gwen Stefani, Williams, and Levine, claiming it was a great combination that worked for the NBC singing competition.

“I’ll tell you one of the things for me personally is getting back to this particular combination of coaches. There’s something to be said about every combination… But there’s something about this one that is a standout to me because there’s just so much history here with these four coaches. You can’t fake that. There’s friendships that go way back. When you get to work with your friends like… who gets to do that? It’s pretty cool.”

While the four coaches certainly made for a great team, and stellar ratings, Shelton’s point seemed to be based around his desire to have Gwen Stefani remain on the show. Ahead of season 10, Gwen Stefani is expected to exit the series, making way for Christina Aguilera, who will be welcomed back after taking one season off. In fact, Shelton went as far as to suggest Gwen Stefani should appear on season 10 as the fifth coach of The Voice, and teased Daly about his pull as the show’s executive producer.

“I’ll see you next season [Gwen Stefani],” Shelton proclaimed.

Since Gwen Stefani and her new boyfriend confirmed their romance in November with a public hand-holding appearance in Nashville, where Shelton had attended the 2015 Country Music Awards, the couple has been dealt with a number of rumors, the latest of which claimed Gwen Stefani and Shelton were engaged.

On December 12, Gossip Cop revealed a report which alleged Gwen Stefani proposed to Shelton after just weeks of dating, but confirmed, via Gwen Stefani’s rep, that the report was entirely untrue.

Gwen Stefani has also been faced with pregnancy rumors, and rumors claiming Shelton’s ex-wife, Miranda Lambert, has gotten fed up with their love fest on The Voice. Earlier this week, a Hollywood Life source alleged Lambert was ready for their public romance to end.

“Miranda is just over it. Her marriage to Blake is over and she just wants to move on with her life. She’s focusing on her music and her upcoming tour and her friends. It’s just hard when her ex and his new girlfriend are all over TV, the web and magazines together. Miranda can’t wait till The Voice season ends so she can avoid Blake and [Gwen Stefani]’s love fest.”

Don’t miss Gwen Stefani on the season finale of The Voice, airing tonight, Tuesday, December 15, at 9 p.m. on NBC. During the show, fans will be treated to a number of performances from artists including Missy Elliot, Sam Hunt, and Justin Bieber.
