‘Breaking Bad’ Remake: India’s Shah Rukh Khan Wants Walter White In A Movie, Not Season 6 — Bad Idea?

Want a Breaking Bad remake? India may end up being the source for the first time we see Walter White again, but it turns out that Bollywood’s Shah Rukh Khan would want to make a Breaking Bad movie, not Breaking Bad season 6 like many fans might prefer.

In addition, reports are indicating that Khan is interesting in playing the lead character in the Breaking Bad remake. But the real question is how the characters might change, since Khan apparently feels that Indian audiences are not quite ready to accept a story about a dying teacher who becomes the leader of organized crime in order to produce meth for family money.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, earlier in 2015 there were rumors that Vince Gilligan had confirmed plans for Breaking Bad season 6.

Right now any plans for making a Breaking Bad remake in India are in the very early stages of planning. No one has been cast, there is not a budget, and, in fact, Bollywood does not even have the rights yet. According to India TV News, Shah Rukh Khan wants to bring the highly-rated American TV show to India, but the process for securing the rights from AMC is just starting at this point.

Just like how Walter White always ran into problems that threw his carefully made plans into disarray, Khan also has to face the fact that Indian audiences may not want to watch a TV show with such a dark story. After all, if the remake were to be accurate to the original, then Walter White would transform from a likable chemistry teacher with cancer into the criminal monster known as Heisenberg. Khan believes Indian audiences may not accept such a character in a TV series, but they may be accepting of a Breaking Bad movie.

“The story of a man who is going to die and takes a chance to save his family is a good premise for a feature film,” explained the Bollywood star.

According to Bollywood Life, Khan is also willing to adopt the beard and bald head in order to accept the leading role in the Bollywood film.

“Shah Rukh Khan revealed to a leading publication that he plans to bring the iconic and one of the highest rated television series of all time, Breaking Bad, to the Indian Shores. If he manages to do that, he will be following the footsteps of Anil Kapoor, who has brought in 24 as well as the desi remake of Modern Family to television. However, unlike Anil Kapoor’s plans, Shah Rukh Khan will make remaking the series into a Hindi movie, and he might cast himself in it as the lead role.”

It is questionable whether American audiences will be interested in the final version of the Breaking Bad remake. India may eat it up, but it seems difficult to transfer a story of five seasons into a movie format, even if it ran up to three hours. Many major plot elements would have to hit the cutting room floor, but the major issue is that of the transformation of Walter White into Heisenberg would happen so quickly that it may be difficult for any audience to appreciate the moral choices which inevitably led to destruction of the family, but also the man.

Breaking Bad fans on social media are already responding to the idea, and so far the opinions seem pretty unanimous.
