Ronda Rousey Fulfills Promise, Attends Marine Corps Ball With Jarrod Haschert

Ronda Rousey made good on a promise she made in September and attended the Marine Corps Ball with Lance Corporal Jarrod Haschert in North Carolina on Friday night.

Rousey accepted the invitation from Haschert after he posted a video online, which has since been viewed more than five million times, asking her to be his date, and told her she was his “celebrity crush.”

“You are my celebrity crush, like, I love everything you do and I think that you are a phenomenal person,” Haschert said in his video, “which is why it would be my honor to take you to the Marine Corps Ball on December 11th. I really hope this doesn’t get in the way of your training… but I hope you take this in consideration, because if you do, you will truly be making my dream come true.”

As ESPN previously reported, Haschert was worried that he would be stood up last week when he hadn’t heard from Rousey. However, a source close to the bantamweight champion said she never once questioned whether or not she would keep her promise, even after losing her fight with Holly Holm to a second-round knockout.

“After the fight, she never hesitated for a second whether or not she was going to attend,” the source said. “She made a promise to a Marine and was going to keep that promise. It was as simple as that. That’s Ronda.”

The Marine Corps Ball marked Rousey’s first public appearance since her disappointing loss against Holm, and gossip news site TMZ was able to catch up with the UFC fighter before she boarded her flight to head to North Carolina.

“I’m going to the Marine ball,” she said. “Yeah, I promised I’d go. It’s an honor to be asked. Honestly, I’d probably stay on my couch, crying and eating ice cream if he hadn’t asked me. So it’s probably a good thing.”

It appears as though it was a “good thing,” because Rousey was all smiles in the photos from the ball. On Saturday, Ronda shared a photo on Instagram that showed her and Hashert appearing to have a really good time together. She captioned the photo by saying: “Thank you Lance Cpl. Jarrod Haschert for taking me to the Marine Corps Ball, being such a gentleman, and putting a smile on my face again.”

As the Inquisitr previously reported, UFC president Dana White announced on Wednesday that the Rousey, Holm rematch had been tentatively scheduled to take place on July 9, 2016, in Las Vegas during the UFC 200 event. While Holm’s manager, Lenny Fresquez, has his doubts that Rousey will be ready to fight again so soon, White insists she will be ready.

“Ronda is the fiercest competitor I have ever met in my life and she’s also very proud,” White said. “What made the world love Ronda is that Ronda absolutely 100 [percent] knew she was not going to lose. … People rallied around this powerful female figure.”

“Ronda’s never lost a fight. She will overcome it and be back,” White continued. “She got clipped, stayed in there and tried to fight through it. She told me she was in there, she was rocked, and she’d never been rocked like that before. And the things that were going on in her head – what she was doing – she’d never been in that situation.”
