‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Trailer Breakdown Highlights And Twitter Questions Fielded By Bryan Singer

The X-Men: Apocalypse movie trailer was just released, starring Oscar Isaac of The Force Awakens, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hunger Game’s Jennifer Lawrence, and more. Director Bryan Singer goes through the details, according to Empire Online and each segment of the dramatic and intense clip is described by Singer rather eloquently.

The opening segment to the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer reveals Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey in what looks to be likely a premonition and not a dream, although Xavier has said otherwise. Historically, Jean is quite different from the rest of the mutants. In previous films, there was even a classification system that even put her beyond Magneto’s level of power, especially as the Phoenix. This makes sense as Singer mentions she has a special connection to not only Charles Xavier, but to the psychic world as well. It’s a great way to foreshadow things to come for the X-Men.

“It’s all about their potential. Jean has a special connection with Xavier, she has a special connection with the psychic world and she has enormous untapped power that’s growing.”

A cloaked Apocalypse appears with a disillusioned storm, played by Alexandra Shipp. It was reported that she’s in this state of mind at the time and as with most opportunistic evil doers and dictators, this is likely a recruitment process for Apocalypse and it seems that Ororo’s state of mind would make her easy prey to this ancient being. This is mentioned by Empire Online due in part by Singer’s reinforcement of the weather-controller’s disillusion as she is “looking for a mother and a father and the village she lost.”

Although Apocalypse’s history runs deep in comic book lore, this recruitment process in the 20th Century could be comparable or contrasted to the encounter with Storm in the movie trailer. In the comic book, this was all triggered by the one of the future X-Men, Cable. It was then where Apocalypse gave powers to those that would follow him and become The Four Horsemen. Such a scene in the trailer was pointed out by CIA agent, Moira MacTaggert, played by Rose Byrne.

The trailer continues, seemingly conveying En Sabah Nur’s in what looks to be a power incomprehensible. Xavier gives acknowledgement to this as he sits with his X-Men colleagues equipped with the Cerebro helmet.

Other quick shots of X-Men Jubilee, played by Lana Condor, Lawrence’s Mystique, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler (an older character version formerly played by Alan Cumming in the past). Beast, played Nicholas Hoult is also returning, according to Empire Online. Collider reported earlier screen writer Simon Kimberg said that Mystique and Beast relationship would be even further explored.

Singer also took to Twitter for X-Men: Apocalypse answering fan questions as reported by Comic Book Resources and talked about how in this film they will be delving into the ancient origins of mutants and also said that next year there will be yet another movie trailer that’s even bigger.

He also remarked about how working in the time period of the 80s as opposed to the 70s in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Bryan said that though the 80s were a fun time, considering they were his “teenage years. He wanted to bring horror to it all.

“I wanted to bring horror and terror to the happiness of the 80s.”

As far as Turner’s Jean Grey’s X-Men character, Singer talks about how they further explore into her powers as well. The director also mentions Storm’s 80s look and introducing the mutant into the film as a “street urchin.”

The X-Men: Apocalypse trailer released yesterday and the movie is slated to open in theaters come May 27, 2016 and is screen written by Simon Kinberg. How do you think the Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Oscar Isaac will fare as the world’s first mutant? How do think the X-Men will handle him?
